Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations

George Kennedy outlived Nielsen? I had no idea.

Rami really is just that jittery and uncomfortable after all

I hope her shutout means Amy Schumer's 15 minutes are over. So over her...

4 seasons of a critically acclaimed tv series, a hit movie, and 5 or 6 years of being one of the top standups in the country. Seems like you need a lesson on what 15 minutes is.

Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations

Sad for The Americans, but it was still fun watching Matthew and Kerri sitting together in the front row like royalty.

Delighted for Rami. He really deserved it. His line "Please tell me you're seeing this too" was easily the best of the night.

Feel a little bad for Fargo S2. It was truly outstanding, but can't fault the voters for going with People vs OJ every time. That really was the show of the year.

I'm with Kimmell on the Maggie Smith thing - did they really have to honor her yet again? All she ever does is play herself.

Was I mistaken or didn't they promise an appearance by Chris Rock that never actually happened?

Skipped the show this year.

That was a great line from Rami.

At least Claire Danes didn't win, right?

Yes, thank God, Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black won. If it wasn't going to be Kerri Russell, I'm glad it was her.

Actors can choose to not be on the ballot. John Larroquette did that after four consecutive wins.

I watched the show on a slight DVR delay and was never more happy for a delay than when I fast forward-ed past the two minutes of Louie climbing the stairs.

I thought People vs OJ was a steaming pile of shit, so I was surprised to see it praised, here. I bailed after two episodes. I thought it was terribly overacted, and that Travolta and Schwimmer looked like parodies of their characters. Cuba was just wrong for OJ.

In other news, Regina King beating out Olivia Colman turns my stomach. I couldn't stand King's character on American Crime, and I'm a huge fan of Colman.

I read some of that. I think I'd be more receptive to this idea if I thought awards shows were anything more than a middling way to kill a few hours on a Sunday night. If they really wanted to improve the show. Here's an idea. Employ acceptance speech surrogates for the winners of non comedic shows. Instead of Joe Q Bleeding Hart, the winning writer of some socially progressive show going up there and telling us how the world needs to change, they should hire comedians to perform the acceptance speech as if were a roast of said show. A lot of these shows are heavy enough without someone going up there and thorougly depressing you. Just a thought.

Regina King probably benefitted from the fact her performance in The Leftovers wasn't nominated in supporting actress drama which would have been pretty deserving over Maggie Smith and the Non Lena GOT performances.

.
And the fawning over the real Marcia Clark was just as annoying last night, as they are making her out to be some goddess that was misunderstood.

I feel sorry for the people that don't "get" how great the OJ miniseries is. Not only was it the best thing on TV this year, it was one of the best things on TV this decade.

I can't put my finger on why but I agree. Very few shows keep me anticipating the next episode throughout a full season but I couldn't wait to watch OJ every week and was sad when it ended.

That being said, John Travolta looked like a stiff mannequin last night. Hardly appears human at this point.

I don't think David Schwimmer got that "Juice" joke.

And here is this year's winners, under those same rules.

Sorry, but It was pretty great. To be fair though, it did get better after the first two episodes, once Darden and Cochran became more central characters. You can't really dismiss a show of this quality after only watching the first two set-up episodes.

Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations

People vs O.J. was very good overall, but I disagree it was one of the best things on TV this decade. Some very good acting and writing mixed with some very over the top acting and cheesiness. It did do a lot more right than wrong though.

Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations

I guess at this point there's just too much praise for the OJ series for me to ignore it.
If something gets a lot of praise, I'll give it a shot unless it's a genre I don't like (ie. Game of Thrones/Fantasy).

Re: 2016 Emmy Nominations

It was nice to see Maslany win. She's done wonderful work with the many characters she's played.
You know the performances are good when you forget that the roles are all being played by the same actor - even though they all generally look the same.

Is this the first time a Canadian actress won an Emmy? Probably the first time a major Emmy was won for a Canadian show.
