Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

Someone mentioned it earlier - but this is a bit like Sutter and SOA, where it became about the showrunner indulging in himself and getting away from what made the show good. The show having a distinctive style was great but now it almost seems to be entirely about that and there isn't a lot happening either plot-wise or even character-wise.

If this goes a season 3 he needs to consider not doing every episode. While there were times in season 1 you could tell a show was being done differently, they still managed to keep it cohesive and that might have been better in keeping the show on track overall. Now it seems like one guy basically running wild.

The show is dying in the ratings. I'm not sure it survives to a third season.

Renewed for a third season: http://deadline.com/2016/08/mr-robot...rk-1201804119/

They attribute on demand and other platforms that helped it despite crappy ratings.

Even my dad, whose 77, watches this On Demand instead of live.

Yeah, I'm sure the on demand helped but man, the show's quality is really not making a strong case for this to keep going.

I guess I'm the only viewer that liked the 90's sitcom fantasy, then?

I wonder if/when the main characters will realize they're pawns of the Chinese to kill the USA's monetary infrastructure.

No I thought it was awesome too.

Glad that it was renewed. I was worried.

Seeing Alf was the highlight of the season so far. Somebody needs to explain to Esmail that the point of a narrative is to move forward.

More generally, cancelation/renewal decisions of cable shows is hard to determine from ratings alone. Cable channels seem to have other sources of revenue besides advertising.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

So glad it was renewed. I have no idea what show others were watching when they state how much worse this season was. At this point last season I was sure we were watching something like Fight Club, with very little of larger story having moved forward. I'm pretty sure i know what's really going this season as well, but still enjoying the ride.

Personally I thought the old school USA network stuff was awesome.

Glad it's renewed, but let me ask anyone who may know something about TV ratings. What does the average Cable TV show in the summer get ratings-wise? Do you think this would get better ratings if they put this on in the fall or spring?

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

Yes, it would likely get higher ratings in a better season for viewers. Pre-sold streaming deals and its general critical buzz (all from season one) saved the show. Season two's ratings are absolutely terrible and would get most shows canceled 95% of the time. I'm guessing that USA Network wanted to keep a show that had won it some awards from critics.

Haven't watched the show at all but was thinking of putting it in the queue. Is season 2 really bad?

As you can see, people tend to disagree about that. I'd suggest giving the first season a try, -It's well worth your time (you may not like it, -I found the lead character hard to embrace), and then deciding on the second season for yourself. I thought I'd drop it but I'm hanging with it for now.

I occasional bits of borrowed score always gets my attention. The Season Two premiere used music from "The Parallax View" (a classic paranoid thriller from the '70s) and last night's title sequence used music from "Blow Out" (another paranoid thriller).

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

Glad they finally got the obvious reveal out of the way. It seems clear that he's being held on suspicion of the 5/9 hack and not the murder of Tyrell. Also seems unlikely that fsociety could corrupt all FBI evidence against him, so either the Dark Army will assist or they'll just hack the prison and free him directly as a fugitive. I dunno.

I guess now we know who was knocking on the door at the end of season one.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

Mixed feelings about the last episode.

Yes, we are finally out of this mess. There were some good surprises. But also some obvious new lies/misdirections (I don't think Elliot killed Tyrell).

But also, after this episode looks like WhiteRose is the main character of the show. Or something like that.

And yes, people are split, there are some even hate watching, and some are absolutely loving this season.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

I'm mad because I read a spoiler on Facebook after the first episode that speculated Elliot was in jail, so I was waiting for this happen and didn't have the shock value it should have.

I think this season would have been better if they scratched the whole Elliot 'misdirection' and had him with Darlene all year going through her story now. I think the show works best when they are together, and it has been missing that this season. That would have meshed well with Angela story going on too.

And there is just something sexy about Joanna.....

I agree. If he's dead his entire character was utterly pointless.

Exactly, this is the same show from last season, and it's been amazing throughout.

I loved the twist, usually I hate them, but this show handles them extremely well.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

I mean, let's be real, the twist was telegraphed pretty much like a WWE punch given all the clues of him having a daily schedule that seemed very much like being institutionalized/in prison.

I'm just glad we're done with that and moving on already.
