They need to get some Pogues songs in there, too.

Interesting. Will have to watch that scene again when it re-airs next week.

Later on in the car she says something like "Thanks for checking in on my Uncle."

Thanks. Now it makes sense. But at the time, you don't see her face much (if at all) so it wasn't easy to put it together. No need to re-watch now.

I wouldn't call it running, but the way the show is going, they will probably take that part of the backstory out.

Also, the way The Word was used was lame.

I'll give it another few episodes

Not exactly sure what is going on but it's violent so that's cool

I read the comics years ago but don't remember much about them. I was bored with the pilot about halfway through and stopped it. I may just start over again and try to pay better attention but this first episode definitely DID NOT grab me so far.

AMC is sending out four episodes for reviews, so clearly they think it takes several episodes to get the feeling they're after.

Never read the comics. Was completely confused by the show. Loved it. I'm in.

I prefer the Preacher as just a bad ass fighter, not sure i really need the "do what i say" power thing

Audio commentary on the Pilot by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for anyone interested.

I'm all for extra feature, but damn, how about they let the season breathe before giving us their thoughts.

Extremely disappointed with the Pilot. Almost fell asleep at one point.

Yeah that wouldn't radically change the entire raison d'être of the entire story or anything...

Re: Preacher (S1E01) -- 90 Minute Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 5/22/16

I watched the Pilot last night and honestly, I didn't really like it. I'll give it a few more episodes to suck me in. Not being familiar with the Preacher comics, I thought it was all over the place as far as tone. And I thought it was just too weird/offbeat for my taste.

I saw the premiere got around 2.4M viewers. I can see that dropping when it returns on 6/5. I think this is a property that may be too niche for AMC's audience.

I remember reading an interview with Garth Ennis where he said that, in hindsight, he thought the "Voice of God" power he gave Jesse made the character too powerful, so he started to have him use it less as tne series went on. I can understand that, it's an interesting concept, but after a while it could become a crutch.

My favorite uses of the voice from the comic series...

Spoiler:

One word out of you and I'll blow your head off... "Miss."

Telling Sheriff Hugo Rootto go fuck himself, and he tears his dick off and shoves it up his ass.

Making that one guy from The Grail count every grain of sand on a beach.

I watched the pilot and I felt like this show has some potential. But that didn't keep me from dozing off a few times. Hoping that was just a "pilot thing".

Being on the verge of sleep a few times within an hour might just mean you're tired dude.

When I was a kid, my old man would sleep through some of really great TV shows and I just couldn't understand that. Now that I'm an old, old man I'm grateful that I have a DVR or I'd never be able to watch anything. There are nights where I've fallen asleep through some of my favorite shows three or four times while trying to finally get to the end of the program. People love the cliché "that was so boring I fell asleep" but I generally regard that as a truism. Most of my friends who are my age are the same way.

...or a show is fuckin' mostly slow paced and boring. I think I'm grown enough to know when a god damn boring show puts me to sleep.

I've never fallen asleep from boredom, that always seemed to me like a cartoon thing. But if you guys say so, I guess it happens.
