DC's Legends of Tomorrow (S1E16) -- Season Finale -- "Legendary" -- 5/19/16

THURSDAY, MAY 19

SEASON FINALE

DC'S Legends of Tomorrow

"Legendary" - (8:00-9:01:45 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

THE FINAL BATTLE - After the numerous sacrifices the team has made since the beginning of this ride, Rip (Arthur Darvill) decides that it's time they each decide their own destiny and returns them to Central City a few months after they first left. Returned to their normal lives, each team member must individually decide if they are willing to sacrifice everything in order to save the world. Meanwhile, Sara (Caity Lotz) visits with her father (guest star Paul Blackthorne) who delivers some heartbreaking news about her sister. Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Chris Fedak and teleplay by Phil Klemmer & Marc Guggenheim (#116). Original airdate 5/19/2016.

Will return this Fall to The CW on Thursdays at 8pm.

CW said that Legends will be part of a 4-way crossover with Supergirl, Flash and Arrow next season.

Captain Cold was "killed off" last week. But will remain in the DC TV Universe as a recurring character.

Holy shit! The JSA in season 2? and it's Mike from Suits as Rex Tyler (Hourman)

Good finale. Glad they wrapped up the Savage arc and Hawk Girl and Hawk Man are out. I'm curious to see who the new team members will be next season.

Heart wrenching scene when Captain Lance told Sara Laurel was dead.

Agreed. Started strong, fell apart, ended strong.

I marked out hard when Hourman said JSA.

Here are casting description of two characters being added next season, though no names are revealed:

"A male in his late-20s to mid-30s is being sought to play a guy who grew up in the shadow of his World War II hero grandfather and has used a Han Solo-like facade to conceal his insecurity — until, that is, the development of super powers enables him to love up to his family legacy.

Also being cast for Legends Season 2 is the female member of an elite paramilitary team living in the 1940s. An African-American, she is scrutinized in her time for both her gender and race and thus has worked twice as hard to be a perfect soldier. That said, she blames herself for — and aims to avenge — the death of a team member for whom she had repressed feelings."

This came out a couple of weeks back and when I read the description of the female character, I knew "Hawkgirl" wasn't going to be a regular on Season Two.

The hawk losers are gone!

Very uneven season. Good ending, though. People can finally stop bitching about Firestorm not doing transmutation.

I enjoyed the finale. It didn't salvage the weak second half of season one but finished up nicely. I am a big Hourman fan.

Do something, Robocop. Heatwave became an unexpectedly funny character over the season.

I think most people expected more from the Hawks. Carter was missing or dazed most of the season, while Kendra was worried about her romance with Ray. I simply wanted to see some kick-ass Hawks in action.

This is a show where I think its heart was in the right place but the execution was simply lacking. The mix of characters didn't always work and Rip Hunter was a lame Doctor Who rip-off.

They needed to get rid of the Hawks if the Thanagarians are going to show up next season, especially if they have wings.

What the what?!?! JSA?!?! So the Waverider can travel to parallel Earths? Maybe they changed the timeline in such a way that the JSA exists? So is Jay Garrick part of the Arrowverse JSA? This could have serious repercussions on The Flash.

I'm sure those timequakes will play a role in it. Now that Supergirl is on the CW, I would expect a lot more Multiverse crossings. Interesting to see they already had the Supergirl promos lined up for the finale.

Ratings weren't incredible for the finale. LOT was regularly pulling .7 the last few episodes after a strong ratings start. That is still better than much of the CW's lesser shows but clearly a rung below Arrow, which is a rung below The Flash in ratings.

We might actually have the first appearance of Alan Scott GL on TV. The mind boggles.

I would put the appearance of Alan Scott next season at nearly 100% odds.

I shall shed my light over dark evil.
For the dark things cannot stand the light,
The light of the Green Lantern!

Okay, I can see why the regular Corps' oath is more well known.

I would put the appearance of Alan Scott next season at nearly zero odds.

The Spectre has informed me that WB's theatrical division has barred all Green Lantern appearances from television. I tend to believe him as the embodiment of the Wrath of God.

With Johns at the helm now, you know he'd want to be the only one who touches GL stuff.

Other than the terribly acted Laurel death reveal it was a pretty good finale. Keep Sarah around for the butt kicking and her butt. Not the scenes requiring emotion.

We were going to write this show off it they didn't end the Savage stuff and dump they awful Hawk duo. I know nothing about Hourman, the name alone is pretty stupid, but at least they are trying something new.

The name goes back to The Forties, I believe, so cut them a little slack.

He takes a pill (Miraclo - Sound familiar? Think "ARROW" with a name and origin tweak) he's Superman Lite...for 1 hour. Both the name and source of power are kinda so so. But he's DC Legacy man...

Pretty good finale!

Doesn't excuse some of the bad parts of the season, like:

- Hawk Duo
- Kendra and Ray romance
- Overuse of Savage
- Bumbling through time (at least Rip acknowledged these by case)

I really liked how they wrapped everything up, yet gave 20 minutes for everything to unwind before dropping the cliffhanger. That scene easily could have been dropped in on the rooftop after killing savage*, or when they arrived back in 2016.

* I will say, at least Smallville always found a way for Clark to not kill somebody. Which was consistent with the 78 Superman. Since day 1 of the CW verse, there haven't been any issues with killing people.

I don't have much knowledge of Earth 2 lore, or the JSA so I find that twist interesting. They probably could and should have been more overt that this was an Earth 2 reference.

Still, I like the concept and am interested to see how season 2 unfolds given the cast mixup. Does suck to see Snart go, but I'm sure he is real self can be undead whenever since he was at the epicenter of the timeflux.

The JSA (Justice Society of America) was actually introduced in the 9th season of Smallville in the 2 part episode "Absolute Justice".

I think the producers are aware of the general fan reaction to LOT. There are a lot of discussions from them for season two's plans across the net addressing the weaknesses of season one. In fact, one producer was probably too candid in giving away significant plot details for next year. Stay away from most TV review sites covering this show if you want to remain spoiler-free.

Maybe Hourman is searching for Jay Garrick.
Hopefully JWS will make a guest appearance next season.
