Re: Game of Thrones (S6E04) -- "Book of the Stranger" -- 5/15/16

Am I the only one annoyed by how much of a pussy Jon Snow has been since being resurrected?

Before he got killed his character was coming along nicely. Growing into his role as Night Commander. Displaying leadership and bravery by choosing to help the Wildlings. But since being resurrected all hes done is whine about losing and say hes got no more fight left in him. I thought he would be on a rampage once he learned that the Boltons had Ricon. But Sansa basically had to grab him by the collar and tell him to go save his brother. And even then he gave a meek "yes maam" head nod. ughhh

So the complaint is that he was on a certain trajectory ("coming along nicely"), and being betrayed and murdered by his brothers changed that trajectory?

If the hair on her head didn't burn, her bush is probably intact as well.

In the "inside the ep" they talk about how Jon Snow has been fighting since leaving home. He's worn out and tired. It makes sense. He needed Sansa to at least get him to consider fighting again.

It's also one of the first times he's made a selfish decision, highlighting how Jon's deadly experience might have changed him. Jon's always been selfless, putting others ahead of him for the good of the realm, and always protecting the innocent. Ed scolds him because Jon knows better than anyone how much danger Westeros is in. But Jon is tired of trying to save the world and would rather be sippin' on margaritas down in Dorne.

I'm not sure about that. After getting a glimpse of Sand Snake snatch, the married life might not be so appealing to him anymore.

Still, it would have been more interesting to turn him into a vengeful badass after his resurrection. I guess his brooding emo-ness is what sells.

Random thought...

When Queen Cersei was naked before her people, it was a humiliating event. But when Queen Daenerys was naked before her people, it was an empowering event.

Comparing and contrasting these 2 instances of a naked Queen standing before her people shows that the circumstances of why they are naked are more important than just the mere lack of clothing.

Can you provide an analysis of the penis size comparisons always occurring on the show as well?

No, that would have been predictable. I'm sure an omnipotent, seemingly invincible Jon Snow full of confidence and swagger might have been entertaining but I'm glad they didn't go that route.

We've spent years at the Eyrie and most characters have at least visited.
Let me guess, you read the books.

i've never read the books but what Hiro11 pointed out was spelled out in season 4 when Baelish and Sansa arrive at the Vale.

Do you guys think there will be a battle scene this year that will take up the entire episode or will we get one of those lame "here's the start of the battle"..."here's how it ends"?

Both.

Small battle (big, but start and ends without seeing the majority of it):
Tyrells / Lannister vs. Faith Militant (and i predict it will end with something involving the high sparrow and his knees; and that one faith chick that reads at people is gonna get hers, too).

Big battle:
Ramsay / karstarks / umbers (at first) vs. wildlings / vale / houses still loyal to the Starks (including a turn by the Umbers).

Either of those could get a surprise - Danny, her Dragons, the Unsullied, Dothraki and whoever else she commands could make a surprise appearance at Kings Landing when that goes down.

And the Whitewalkers could very well show up at the Bolton/Stark fight.

i can agree on the whitewalkers scenario.

But the Dany stuff -- i don't think anyone from that storyline is getting on a boat until the very end of the season. then it'll be one of those slow reveal shots where it pulls back to show the entirety of her combined army.

(all speculation, of course, in case anyone was thinking something was being spoiled.)

Hiro was trying to explain the Vale to me after I said I wasn't familiar with the "Knights of the Vale"--like, the knights as a fighting force to be feared. I'm not a moron who doesn't know what the Vale is.

The whitewalkers would make total sense. I wouldn't expect Dany to be involved in a Bolton-Snow battle, but then I didn't expect Stannis to appear at the wall either.
