The Night Manager (AMC) -- miniseries event -- S: Hiddleston, Laurie

Launching a new night for AMC originals is the six-part miniseries event "The Night Manager," premiering on Tuesday, April 19th at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. A contemporary interpretation of John le Carré's espionage drama, the series follows former British soldier Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), who is recruited by intelligence operative Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) to infiltrate the inner circle of international businessman Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie) and detonate the unholy alliance he has ministered between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade. To get to the heart of Roper's vast empire, Pine must withstand the suspicious interrogations of his venal chief of staff Major Corkoran (Tom Hollander) and the allure of his beautiful girlfriend Jed (Elizabeth Debicki). In his quest to do the right thing, Pine must first become a criminal himself. Executive producers include John Le Carré, Simon Cornwell, Stephen Cornwell and Stephen Garrett. Writer David Farr also serves as an executive producer as does Academy Award(R) winner Susanne Bier, who served as director.

Cut version I presume. The original British airing had both nudity and swearing.

I'm fine watching it on AMC. Don't need to track down the British version just for some nudity and F bombs.

Remember if you're going to DVR this, you need to set it to record all. This aired a few months ago in the UK and air dates are old.

Re: The Night Manager (AMC) -- miniseries event -- S: Hiddleston, Laurie

It isn't a ton of nudity.

You see some visible nipples during the sex scenes, and a lot of Elizabeth Debicki in all her 6'3 glory, it just isn't particularly explicit and I bet most will make it to air on AMC. AMC is allowed to air the f-bombs and seeing how cable is these days, they just might keep those in.

The first episode of the show is setup and kind of "Alright", it isn't something that I would watch and say "I need to watch more of this.", but it gets pretty damn good from there. It's very much the Bond suggested by Casino Royale, that was abandoned and turned into the other 3 movies. I highly recommend the show.

The scenery is fucking amazing, utterly beautiful vistas and Roper's life just looks awesome. This looks like it had a huge budget.

Side note, I also really liked the intro:

This show will almost certainly receive an uncut Blu-ray release in the States. British licenses are much cheaper to acquire and Acorn Media has been good about licensing most everything.

AMC is re-airing it a million times, including tonight.

Unless you're hoping to binge watch instead.

Yea that is the plan. This looks like it may benefit from binge watching.

The first two episodes work well spaced apart. They're almost like a movie and its sequel.

The last 4 episodes are binge worthy.

The premiere was absolutely fantastic. I can see why it's getting such critical acclaim. I never really saw Tom Hiddleston as a serious actor despite glowing reviews of his performance in the Thor movies, which I think are mostly terrible. He was incredible in this opener.

Re: The Night Manager (AMC) -- miniseries event -- S: Hiddleston, Laurie

Great premiere. Saw it a few days ago. I liked the way it was shot and the locations. I've also only known Hiddleston from playing Loki in Thor and The Avengers, so seeing him as this character was quite a good change for me. Thought he was pretty suave and cool. Kind of an unintentional James Bond audition.

Hugh Laurie didn't have much screentime, but it was good to see him again after House. Really hard seeing him play someone else after he played that character for 8 years.

I guess we'll be seeing more of Pine infiltrating Roper's world in future episodes before trying to take him down.

Watched this last night. Decent premiere. Good, not great, but looking forward to see where they take this. The jump-cut ahead 4 years at the half-way point caught me off-guard, but it worked.

Agree Hiddleston is pretty good in this. Had limited exposure to his prior work, but am seeing him in a new light.

I guess you've never read a book, or watched a movie based on a book, by John le Carré.

I'm not familiar with the source material. Was Hiddleston's character involved with MI6 before the 4 year jump? If so, did he leave because of what happened or is the gig in Switzerland a transfer? I thought he was a placed agent the whole time but I think that may not be the case?

The British production of Tinker Tailor Solider Spy (not the movie) and Smiley's People after I, Claudius is simply the best mini-series ever.

Many Carré's get confusing; they are difficult books which reward attention. The best adaptions are like that too. So forget about the book and just go with what's on the screen.

Ok; well I'm still confused regarding my comment. I just mentioned the book to say that i have no knowledge of the story beforehand. So is Pine an agent through the whole story or is what's happening in Switzerland his first communication with MI6?
