Pine was a soldier, then went to work in the hotel, and now he's being recruited into intellegence specifically for this one purpose, is my understanding.

Ok; that's kinda what I thought at the end. His meeting with the other soldier(?) is what confused me and made me think he was an agent the whole time. So he was just a basic hotel employee at the beginning of the show/story?

Pretty much, albeit one that purposefully seeming seeks out highly volatile places to work. He had previously worked with various agents, just not to a huge degree, and has a few connections.

I'm not saying. But so far the show hasn't said one way or another.

I must have totally missed it, but when in the episode did the 4 year time jump take place?
So when Pine met Roper that was already a 4 year jump?

Okay, I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Are you trying to say there is more to this story when just Pine being recruited to go against Roper?

In regard to The Night Manger I believe in watching to find out what happens and I would never post anything from the book.

Second episode was even better than the first. A little heard to follow at times, but far more going on. That was a hell of a beating to take for the cause!

Just watched episode 2. Answered a lot of questions I had from episode 1 so that was nice. This has made me realize how much I miss Laurie on TV. Bring back House!!

The Night Manager has been riveting in its first three episodes. You can start seeing all the pieces slowly fall into place.

Interesting that there's not a lot of chatter about this miniseries. I thought it was very well-executed. Really enjoyed seeing how it wrapped up in the final episode.

I thought it was fantastic, taut entertainment. A couple of the minor story-lines felt unnecessary, such as Jonathan's female handler being pregnant. I'll guess that the initial script was much more elaborate and that was a leftover strand.
This truly had some very powerful performances, including Hugh Laurie's sinister Mr. Roper.

She was actually pregnant. Great actress.

For those who liked this, I thought the miniseries "The Honourable Woman" had a similar vibe. International arms dealing, espionage, etc. The Night Manager edged it out (for me), but it's worth watching.

I guess 2016 is a weak year. However, for what it's worth, The Americans had a great season.

Finished this up earlier this week, good series. Hugh Laurie was excellent as the villain, loved seeing him in that role.
About Tom Hiddleston...he was certainly good, and the role felt like an audition for Bond, which he's been rumored to be a favorite for. Based on this series, I think he'd be a good choice, but not a great one. He could certainly pull off the charming/suave/tuxedo wearing side of Bond, but the gritty/tough/cold blooded killer side of Bond wouldn't be as convincing...he's just too much of a nice guy with a baby face. I wouldn't be outraged if he got the role though, I'd be fine. The only perfect choice would have been mid 30's Clive Owen.
