12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

Syfy's critically-acclaimed time-travel thriller 12 MONKEYS will return for a second season on Monday, April 18 at 9PM ET/PT. This all-new 13-episode season will air Mondays, with Aaron Stanford (James Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse), Emily Hampshire (Jennifer Goines), Barbara Sukowa (Katarina Jones) and Todd Stashwick (Deacon) reprising their roles. 12 MONKEYS follows the journey of Cole, a time traveler sent back in time from a dark, hellish future to prevent it from ever happening. Joining forces in the present with Dr. Railly, Cole must defeat a centuries-old malevolent organization known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As Cole, Railly and their unlikely allies get closer to the truth, they'll learn there are deadly consequences for all of history ... and time itself.
13 episode 2nd season

Returns tomorrow night. Posting this a day early for those unaware.

If you need to catch up, Hulu has the exclusive rights to season 1.

Binged S1 on Hulu while out sick. Can't believe how much I enjoyed it and glad it's back.

Re: 12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

Pretty good 1st episode. But, I had forgotten that Cassie was transported to 2043 and that Cole and Ramse were in 2016. Nice little role reversal.

I like seeing Cassie a more colder badass heroine, than the damsel in distress for most of season 1. Seems like she adapted to her new environment.

The show was off the air for 12 months (last episode aired April 2015) That's a super long time to try to remember everything that happened. With so much on, a short season cable show like this ends up being forgotten in the last year.

Now that Better Call Saul has rapped its season, I need a new show to binge. Will I like 12M if I like the movie?

No kidding. Worst thing about these cable series.

DTV has some timing issues with this too. Cut off right at the gun standoff.

Despite loving season one, the span of time since it last aired had me forgetting half of the running sub-plots in this episode. They just jumped right into the action without catching their breath. I would have liked to have been eased a little more gradually into the dense plotting of season two.

Good premiere. I give the show a lot of credit for doing a recap at the beginning. A majority of shows don't do that anymore and expect viewers to remember what happened or expect you to binge watch the show again before the new season.

Not necessarily. I liked the movie but am on the verge of giving up on the show. It suffers from the conversion to a television format. It has a very..."televisiony" feel for lack of a better term. A cool story idea has been stretched far too thin to fill television seasons, and to make up for it they have filled the gaps with numerous silly subplots that often go nowhere and rarely make sense. Do not expect anything remotely the caliber of Better Call Saul.

That said, I liked the S2 premier more than most all of S1. Still has a lot of room for improvement, but it was just enough to make me postpone deleting the season record.

I really like both but they are vastly different. The frame is the same but the picture is different.

The movie was very arty for a Hollywood film with big stars. The series is much closer to normal sci-fi action-adventure.

Re: 12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

I just got around to watching Monday's episode last night. Freaking love this show! I hope the ratings are decent enough for SyFy to continue with it.

It was nice to see Jennifer find her purpose in life and Cassie's transformation from last season is pretty crazy. Those 8 months in 2044 pretty much turned her into the character Cole was when the show first started. Now Cole is the rational one and her instincts are to kill without question.

Was sort of a cool "reset" for the show. Yeah, Cassie has become Cole.

I loved this second episode, flipping the narrative dynamic between Cassie and Cole in a reasonable manner.

Renewed for a 3rd season

I'm playing catch up on this show, but wow, 2 months with zero commentary. Thought this was a relatively popular and liked show here.

I liked season 1 immensely. Season 2 has been a complete disappointment except for a few moments. I hope it gets back in track next year.

Re: 12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

Sadly between my completist tendencies and general laziness I still haven't gotten around to deleting the series record for this show from the DVR. The story has become such a full-fledged ridiculous mess that I don't think they are even trying all that hard any more to hide it. At least I could hate-watch 'Under the Dome' and laugh at their incompetence. This is more of a sad-watch since while the story is clearly terrible the performances aren't bad enough to take the time to mock them. So I guess if anything I just feel sorry for the actors who seem to be doing their best with the garbage they are given.

Bottom line: Very surprised it has been renewed. I find it hard to believe anyone not an immediate family member of the cast/crew would say they think this is anything approaching quality television. But I guess the bar is pretty low over at SyFy. If they are serious about keeping the show alive they should make it a 'Time Tunnel' or 'Quantum Leap'-like stand-alone episodic show and just drop any pretense of a running plot because they are clearly long out of ideas on how to keep milking the original idea in a way that makes even an iota of sense.

Re: 12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

I haven't watched the latest episode (I generally save them until Saturday morning when I am completely clear headed), but have to agree with Deftones. It's been a chore to watch this season. As Bill said, it's a mess. A few episodes have been fun, but man, it's so convoluted.

I've said it once and I'll say it again....time travel is so hard to do right. Even moreso as a long serial series. And now, all the OTA nets are jumping on the time travel bandwagon. Can't imagine them doing any better.

I've seen worse. Given it's ratings I'm somewhat surprised it was renewed. Maybe overseas sales, BD, DVD, etc. are okay?

It might hearten Wynonna Earp fans for a possible Season 2, as that show has been doing better ratings by itself on Friday nights.

I just got back from a trip to Asia and saw that 12 Monkeys current season was airing in Thailand and Indonesia (where I was at) So overseas sales probably played a factor as well.

Re: 12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 4/18/16

The actress who plays Jennifer is the only bright spot for this season. The heart of the first season was the interaction between Cole and Cassie. That has been sorely lacking in season two. It seems they have tried everything to limit their time together on screen. In trying to make Cassie cold and distance they have also made her less likable. Cole's become more of a loyal puppy than a hero.
