Re: Better Call Saul (S2E08) -- "Fifi" -- 4/4/16
BB starts out in late 2008... and Kaylee is first seen in S3 which is early 2009. She's 10 years old. So she really should be 1 or 2 years old in BCS, instead of the 8 or 9 that she looks.
Like I said - it's not a big deal. She's a minor character and it doesn't make any difference to the story. Just surprised they slipped up when they're normally very good with details that are much smaller.
I'm wondering if there's a reason they didn't age her properly. Maybe Kaylee plays a factor in a future episode that requires her to be older?

And Mike had her at a playground in the final season of BB, so she's either under twelve or retarded.

I googled it. In Season 5, Episode 2 - Hank brings up Kaylee to Mike and says she's 10 years old (I watched the scene and confirmed it).
According to the Breaking Bad timeline, that episode takes place in the summer of 2009.

Photoshop was already commonplace in the late '90s, even at Kinko's. Consider that Worth1000 started in 2002.

Photoshop is arguably less widely-used now that consumers aren't likely to subscribe to it for personal use. Then again, CS2 is free.

And these copy stores are usually on top of the latest tech (Staples, FedEx, UPS). They're been rolling out 3D printing services a while back, and that's far from a commonplace tool.

Photoshop may be prevalent now but when I need to copy someone's signature I still cut it out, tape it to the new doc and photo copy it. It's not about the technology but what you're comfortable doing.

Where are you guys getting this shit from? Most people using Photoshop in that era were Mac users, first of all. Photoshop has always been widely used. I think you mean it wasn't as widely pirated as it is now.

Exactly. The point of the scene isn't so much what he's doing, but that he's clearly pulling something out of his grifter bag-of-tricks, - a bit of old-school "magic" he knows, -to pull off something that will be important later. It's all part of his transformation. It's a parallel to what Mike's doing with the hose. Doing it with computers and scanners would not be "Jimmy", -it would be every computer whiz on every show.

Were they? My experience is different then yours, since I don't recall any of that, and since Jimmy is even older than I was back then, I'm sure he knew fuck all about scanners and photoshop as well. And it takes place even further back than 2006.

My posts after that were specifically about availability, which was a separate topic. Unless I'm being Groucho'd.

I wonder if this particular scam won't come back and bite him the ass. Speaking of computers and Jimmy's level of tech-saavy, I would assume that all of those documents were typed up in Word or another word processor and printed on a laser printer. It would be easy for them to go back and look at the original files and see that the documents were altered. They could also probably closely scrutinize the copies Jimmy made and see that these were, in fact, photocopies of the original printed documents.

I don't complain about Kaylee's age like a ton of posts do on this show every time she shows up. I just wanted to argue about the available technology.

I don't think anyone's complaining - just pointing out a glaring error. It was brought up again because this episode erased any doubt that some previously had.

Yeah, they were. By the late '90s, sub-$100 scanners were common at the office stores and CompUSA; I bought one for $40 one Black Friday. Like I pointed out, Worth1000 started in 2002 which reflects the internet culture of Photoshop users making and sharing funny pictures. The magazine Layers was commonly found in Barnes and Noble and in Borders.

Re: Better Call Saul (S2E08) -- "Fifi" -- 4/4/16
The claim that scanning and Photoshopping will definitely make output look altered is just false. To make that point even more moot, by 2002, my local Kinko's used digital copiers, devices that work by scanning documents and printing them out again.

Did anyone else think the title of "Fifi" had to do with a homemade masturbation tool inmates use in prison...
