RIP: Ken Howard aka "The White Shadow" dead at 71

Loved "The White Shadow" when I was little.

Emmy and Tony winner Ken Howard, the tall, barrel-chested actor known for starring in CBS’ late ’70s sports drama “The White Shadow,” NBC drama “Crossing Jordan” and, more recently, for his appearances on “30 Rock” as well as for his presidency of SAG-AFTRA, died Wednesday. He was 71.

SAG-AFTRA announced that he died at his home near Los Angeles. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Loved him in Crossing Jordan. I've been rewatching the series off and on on Netflix this last year.

He'll be missed.

RIP

I was 5 or 6 years old when The White Shadow was on the air. Too young to remember it.

I do remember Ken from Crossing Jordan when he played Jill Hennessy's father. Ken was only 71, but it feels like he's been around forever. I know he's guest starred in many shows over the years.

Likewise, one of my favorite shows growing up... was playing on my junior high basketball team at the time, so found TWS especially relevant.

Of course, saw Ken Howard in lots of other stuff over the years. It was always cool to see him show up in odd comedy parts, like 30 Rock or The Office, or playing a villain in "Michael Clayton."

RIP.

Liked him in just about everything he was in, but he'll always be Ken Reeves to me.

Now, I have to go bury a bird in the backyard.

Also loved White Shadow. Sorry to see him go at such a relatively young-ish age.

I also watched The White Shadow when I was a kid and really liked it. And this is coming from someone who hates basketball. But the show was about much more than just basketball.

I also thought he was older than 71, mainly because he does look older than that and also because I thought he was a little older when he was in The White Shadow.

I remember The White Shadow being on TV but I don't think we watched it. I wanted this awesome basketball game though.

71 is too young. Ken Howard

Your picture brought back memories. I had that game but it was before there was any link to the White Shadow show.

Here's the version I had:

Loved the show. Loved that game, though I don't think I had the White Shadow branded version.

I remember his appearances on 30 Rock and bragged that he tried nan at a Indian restaurant lol.

Saw him at the 2016 SAG Awards and had no idea he was in bad health. He should have gotten a standing ovation if that was the case.
