This was a cool episode to have a large HDTV. Looked gorgeous.

I love the European legs of the race. They are by far my favorite. I would love to go visit where they raced this leg.

This season is so awful. Nobody needs the money so it's completely non-competitive. We're essentially watching rich people on holiday.

Thats exactly what is feels like. No one really cares if they win. Hell, they were more excited because 2 of the players may have a crush.

Glad I didn't have to say it first. I am only still watching out of habit/loyalty. It has become almost a chore, and I will do other things while watching the show. This last episode in particular was awful. The "rich people on holiday" comment nails it.

Agreed.

This season and the family edition are by far the two worst seasons of AR. Only thing keeping me watching is my entry in the DVDTalk Amazing Racing game.

That AR went the social media stars route is a head scratcher. They're catering to a demo who will NEVER watch the show, while alienating the fanbase that keeps the show on the air (and winning Emmys) every year.

Rich, annoying people on holiday. Just had the last two episodes on in the background and barely paid attention. This show is completely dependent on casting and having a rooting interest or two.

This has been a disappointing season for me, not as bad the Family Edition, but still near the bottom. Maybe the 3 week break will be a good thing.

And I agree, this episode was beautiful. I'd love to visit the area they were in.

"Social media stars" make that much cash? You make it sound like they're already millionaires.

They all have a ton of followers other than the one female team who are basically hosts. Youtube channels with big subscription numbers make considerable bank.

Considerable enough where they don't need a million dollars?

Top YouTube personalities (which I assume most of these folks are) easily clear 7 figures a year.

And many receive multiple advertising opportunities aside from just YouTube payments. Many of these personalities YouTube shows and Blogs are actually sponsored.

They're all millionaires already other than the host team and maybe another person or two. A million split two ways after taxes is, what, 350k each? Most of these people make that in a few months, half a year max.

So true. I'm so glad they upgraded to HD. Same for Survivor. There have been some beautiful shots on that show as well.

The settings are the only reason to watch this season of TAR. Well that and rooting against the two most annoying racers - Tyler and Cole.

All concerns about the "social media" make up of the teams were spot on.

I'm done with this season. The cast is just as bad as last year. I'll be back for the fall cycle. But if that cast blows too that'll be the third and final strike for me with the series.

They should cast an entire season of homeless people, those who actually need the money.

Not sure how that would work. But I certainly would support both TAR and Survivor getting back to casting normal, middle class people that will make interesting cast members for reasons that have nothing to do with being mentally unstable or fitting some demographic quota.

And enough with the "theme" seasons like this one whit the social media garbage. You know the shows are in trouble when another "all-star" season would be an improvement.

Re: The Amazing Race (S28E05) -- "We're Only Doing Freaky Stuff Today" -- 3/11/16

A visually lovely leg, but poorly designed from a race perspective. I'm not really a fan of these legs that seem to lack any travel/navigation element. Other than Rooster Teeth picking the wrong detour and people falling on the paraglider challenge, this was a pretty linear first in-first out sort of leg. And the paragliding was odd as it seemed to be at the paraglider pro's discretion as to when they launched, so some seemed to be more tentative than others.

I think the biggest problem with this leg is that it came after a leg where every other team came in at the same time. Outside the initial order the whole thing came down to a few unlucky stumbles.
