TV moments that shocked you? (Spoilers, obviously)

not sure if this is a good thread to start or not, what with shows people haven't seen and may want to.

maybe a thread of all spoiler tags? just list the season of show or ep. and then spoilerize the moment...

anyway, my most shocking moment in recent memory, at least, is:

House of Cards (S2)
Spoiler:
...Underwood pushing Zoe into the train, killing her instantly.

Game of Thrones (S1)

First one that comes to mind is from The Shield

Spoiler:
The way things ended for Shane and his family. It wasn't something I ever expected to see on TV.

I tend to avoid threads like this, e.g., "Character deaths that shocked you" (no link because I don't even want to click into it). Even assuming people are courteous enough to use spoiler tags, I don't like knowing in advance that something big is coming in Series X season Y because that affects my watching. I know some people seek out spoilers (as discussed in, for example, the Force Awakens thread), and that's fine. And there certainly are Big Moments that I'll discuss in series-specific threads. Not here, though.

I also don't like list/spoiler threads like this. I know many here haven't seen all 9 seasons of 24 with all it's twists and turns and I don't think it's fair to post something like this, which could ruin a huge reveal/plot point. You could spoilerize it, but without some context to help set it up (season/episode), it becomes a vague spoiler. Same goes with many other spoiler heavy serial shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead etc. I did a thread like this a few years ago and I think it was a waste of time in retrospect.

I wonder if they'll change it for the reboot?

Up there with the OJ verdict was the Bronco Chase itself. It was, WOW! OJ Simpson is actually being charged with double murder and he was caught trying to flee! Then they reported he had a gun to his head. Were we going to witness a live suicide of a major celebrity on TV? It was compelling TV. And to top it off, I caught the prank call to Peter Jennings live and was on the floor.

For scripted TV, I'll say the dancing dwarf on Twin Peaks. It was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen on TV up to the point and it was totally unexpected. What was originally a quirky little mystery show became an obsession after that.

And finally, the biggest one for me was the Ohio State Buckeyes beating Miami for the National Championship in 2002/3 in Double Overtime. I was born the year after the last National Championship in 1968/69, so I missed that. I became a Bengals fan the year after their Super Bowl loss in 1988/89 and had suffered a decade of futility; the Reds the year or two after their last World Series win in 1990 and witnessed them falling to the Braves in the NLCS in 1995. So, to finally have a local team (that is, not borrowing from the nearest Major League franchise) win something national in such a dramatic fashion was a huge shock. Nothing has topped that for me, even 2014/15 (and that was pretty cool).

Doctor Who (old series):
Spoiler:
Adric dying at the end of "Earthshock." I watched this when I was a kid, before there was an internet or any way to know what was coming. Total, 100% surprise.

Star Trek The Next Generation:
Spoiler:
Two here, actually. The first one was the death of Tasha Yar in "Skin of Evil." Like Doctor Who above, I had no idea that she would be getting killed off. Actually spent most of the episode after death assuming that Armus would bring her back to life or something.

The other was the cliffhanger for "Best of Both Worlds" where Picard was "borged" into Locutus, and Riker was preparing to blow the Borg ship up... To Be Continued.

When Nick and Lulu are driving to a wedding and a car slams into them. Just saw it today, came out of nowhere.

I guess i should of seen something like that coming, considering what happened recently. But still, it was shocking to me.

I think this is the single biggest "Holy F#$k!" TV moment for me ... It really didn't mean anything in the scheme of Mad Men, but it was completely out of left field.

I'll also admit I initially lost my shit at the fake-out last season of The Walking Dead. After a few moments I wasn't buying it, but I bit at first.

The series has never really been the same for me after that moment. It was a great, shocking turn of events as it happened.

The biggest shock to me would have been during Lost. It was a brilliant move that worked.
