Fuller House (Netflix) - Series Thread

You got it dude! The Tanner family is back...but the house is a little Fuller this time around. On Friday, February 26 Netflix will debut the 13-episode spinoff, Fuller House, in all territories where Netflix is available. In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.'s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.'s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy's feisty teenage daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas), all move in to help take care of D.J.'s three boys - the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson (Michael Champion), neurotic 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr (Messitt Twins). Guest appearances by John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Lori Loughlin (Becky Katsopolis) and Scott Weinger (Steve Hale).

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler
· Candace Cameron-Bure as D.J. Tanner-Fuller
· Elias Harger as Max
· Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner
· Messitt Twins as Tommy, Jr.
· Michael Champion as Jackson
· Soni Nicole Bringas as Ramona

CREW INFORMATION:
· Jeff Franklin as CRTR/EP
· John Stamos as PROD
· Mark Cendrowski as DIR (Pilot)
· Robert L. Boyett as EP

My guess is the people giving it terrible reviews don't like the original series. I can't see it being that bad if a person goes in knowing what to expect which I expect to essentially be an updated version of the original only with the daughters (minus Michelle) taking the lead roles.

I'm loving the review headlines too:

Netflix's Fuller House is like a porn parody without the porn

Netflix's 'Full House' reboot is mawkish, hammy, regressive — and everything fans will want.
Fuller House doesn’t deserve your devotion. It deserves a foreclosure notice.

I almost forgot that this debuts this Friday (for some reason I was thinking sometime in March at the earliest), so I know what I will be doing for a good chunk of the day on Saturday (I assume these are 30m eps).

More:

Probably moreso than with any of the other recent television reboots, every reaction to Fuller House from both the studio audience and probably the home audience will be nigh on Pavlovian, and it's a study in how little needs to be done to produce drool.
From boring to fully intolerable, there's not even enough here to make it Fuller House a serviceable kids show.
Fuller House scrambles the normal critical circuitry. It is bad, but in a manner so in keeping with the original that to harp on its badness feels like meanness, akin to insulting a three-legged dog for not having four.
You guys really gonna waste your time with this?

I didn't like the original show even a little but Will tune in to see what they do with the new season just out of curiosity.

I wonder what excuse they're going to give for little sister Michelle never stopping by. Are either of the Olsen twins even doing anything these days? Or are they just so rich from the gravy train years that they don't care? If they're on good terms with the other cast members, it would've been nice for at least one of them to do a cameo one episode ... help drum up more interest in the series.

Do they need to even mention it outside of a quick line? Just write it off as she lives and works across the country. I don't think any more is needed.

I'm disappointed but not terribly surprised by the bad reviews. It's hard to capture nostalgia and still appeal to a new audience. Is it a kids show or is it trying to get the 28-35 year olds that grew up on Full House? Appealing to both is tough, you usually end up appealing to neither. I'm still going to watch but I'm not expecting more than to be a little happy seeing the characters and the setting again.

They mention Michelle is in NYC with a fashion career.

Also, it's one thing for a studio audience to engage in this sort of worship, but the Fuller House editors are determined to let us experience this rapture in paint-drying real time. It's when the main characters make reference to the absent Michelle (holdouts Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) and then turn and stare at the camera for no less than 13 seconds that you recognize how secondary storytelling is to fan service when it comes to Fuller House.

I had no interest in this until I read the reviews. Now I can't wait! Something this bad has to be seen to be believed.

It basically sounds like if you enjoyed the original series this is more of the same. I don't know what people expected frankly and while the original isn't masterful television it is sort of entertaining as a cheesy sitcom. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but I always liked it for what it was. Plus I enjoy Saget, Stamos, and Coulier all quite a bit and while I know they aren't the focus I'm interested for their involvement.

This. I wouldn't expect Fuller House to be a decent modern sitcom at all. I think it'll be just like Full House when it came out--just set a couple decades later. And I'm fine with that, because that's all I expect.

EW gave it a C- (ouch), but I remember watching the show as it first aired growing up...so as I already mentioned a few posts earlier, I am all in.

New theme song. I don't know many Carly Rae Jepsen songs but I'll say I don't think its completely terrible. The main part of it I don't like is the part that should be a guitar sang as "lalalalala" but other than that I suppose its fine as an update. The original is better though.

Can't say I'm really excited, but I'll check it out for the nostalgia factor. It will be nice seeing all the familiar faces from the show. Hard to believe that Candace Cameron Bure turns 40 in 1 1/2 months. She's only a few years younger than me, but I still think of DJ Tanner as a young teen.

Candace is still hot as fuck. I'll check out a few episodes. I'm glad Jodie Sweetin got off that heroin thing or whatever crazy shit had her down back in the day.

I just watched episode 1 and it wasn't as bad as I expected. It felt too self-aware at times, but the adult-ish humor was a surprise. Of the top of my head, there's jokes involving boobs, semen, and infidelity.

Re: Fuller House (Netflix) - Series Thread

^ Maybe that's why this reboot plays better for me. I grew up with Full House, but find it's brand of schmaltz pretty intolerable to watch these days. The revival hits the right nostalgia notes, but those little winking nods to the audience made it easier to sit through.

The best part was seeing how easily Andrea Barber slid back into playing Kimmy Gibler. It's also nice to see Sweetin putting the twins (and I don't mean Olsen) front and center.
