Jean-Claude Van Johnson (Amazon) Action comedy series starring JCVD

Jean-Claude Van Damme showed an admiral ability to laugh at himself in 2009's comedy crime drama JCVD. And now he's riffing on his own personality again for a new Amazon pilot called Jean-Claude Van Johnson.

The potential series would see Van Damme playing the title character, a private contractor (read: mercenary or secret agent for hire) who uses the Jean-Claude Van Damme name and career as cover for his more dangerous work. Which explains why he made movies such as Street Fighter and Timecop – they were smokescreens for covert operations.

His latest "acting job" is the lead role in a re-imagining of Huckleberry Finn, one that will plunge him back into the world of danger that he craves, and get him closer to Vanessa, his fellow operative, and the woman he loves. Prepare for laughs about Van Damme – or Van Johnson – feeling depressed that he's no longer the man he was, worries about doing the splits (it wouldn't be Van Damme otherwise, would it?) and envy over family photos in the Christmas cards he receives from Dolph Lundgren.

Sounds like it could be a chucklesome idea, and Expendables writer Dave Callaham has come up with the pilot script, which will be in the hands of regular Key & Peele director Peter Atencio, who has Keanu headed to our screens this year. The pilot is reportedly set to go before the cameras in May, and will be up on Amazon at some point in the future, hopefully turning out well enough that it will lead to a full series.
Want!

Yeah, this has potential if they do it right. I'm curious to see how it plays out.

If it has a Sledge Hammer vibe, I could see this being good.

Jean-Claude Van Johnson: Female Lead Cast in Amazon Pilot

Jean-Claude Van Damme is working on a new comedy pilot for Amazon, titled Jean-Claude Van Johnson, and the series now has its leading lady, according to Deadline. Kat Foster will join Van Damme in the series that will focus on his bringing his undercover alter ego out of retirement.

Deadline reported more about the plot of the series:

“Johnson’s cover as the lead role in a re-imagined action film version of Huckleberry Finn lands him right back in the midst of the danger he secretly always craves — but most importantly, back in the orbit of Vanessa (Foster), his fellow secret international operative and the woman he loves. Vanessa styles hair for movies as her cover. Years ago Jean-Claude broke her heart. Now he’s trying to spin back heel kick his way back in to her life, deliberately getting himself assigned to her new mission in Bulgaria.”

The pilot is set to start production in mid-May in Los Angeles, and Phylicia Rashad and Moises Arias also appear in the pilot. Amazon has not ordered this series yet, so fans will need to wait to see if Jean-Claude Van Damme returns to action.

They should include Van Damme's daughter in this show

Sounds like a cool premise.

Kat Foster was one of the best things about 'Til Death.

Jean-Claude Van Damme: 55

At least she's not in her 20s.

Jean-Claude Van Johnson (Amazon Prime) -- S: Jean-Claude Van Damme

Jean-Claude Van Johnson

If you need to eliminate a political rival, debilitate a multinational corporation, or overthrow an entire government - and you need it done with the utmost secrecy - there's only one person to turn to: one of the most internationally recognizable movie stars in the history of film. Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Jean-Claude Van Damme (JCVD) playing "Jean-Claude Van Johnson," a global martial arts and film sensation... and, operating under the simple alias of "Johnson," the most dangerous undercover private contractor in the world. Lucky for the world's bad guys, he's been retired for years... unlucky for them, a chance encounter with a lost love is about to bring him back to the game... and this time, he'll be deadlier than ever. Probably. Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Van Damme along with Kat Foster (Your Family or Mine), Moises Arias (The Middle), and Phylicia Rashad (Creed). The show is executive produced by Peter Atencio (Key and Peele), Ridley Scott (The Good Wife), David W. Zucker (The Man in the High Castle) and Van Damme. From Scott Free Productions, the pilot is directed by Atencio and written by Dave Callaham (Mortal Kombat).

Teaser:

The Pilot is now available on Amazon Prime. This is a single camera comedy being considered for a series pickup in 2017. Thought it deserved it's own thread since it's Van Damme after all. You will need to vote on Amazon's website if you like it or not.

Here's the link to it on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Jean-Claude-V...de+van+johnson

Only Prime Members can view it.

Executive Producer is Ridley Scott.

Why bother ... they've never picked up anything I've voted for even when it won!

Re: Jean-Claude Van Johnson (Amazon Prime) -- S: Jean-Claude Van Damme

This is probably the best pilot I've seen in years. It's polished enough to have me believe Van Damme had been working the script for years on the chance some producer would turn it into a movie. It does spoof his persona which we've seen before but there is a new wrinkle which adds a lot of fun potential.

I'm not sure how an actual television series of this concept would work out in the long run, but I certainly want to see more.

Re: Jean-Claude Van Johnson (Amazon Prime) -- S: Jean-Claude Van Damme

I thought it was quite fun. Loved seeing JCVD spoof himself and playing a old, creaky and broken down version of himself. The part with him being some kind of undercover operative made it different rather than having it be a traditional Hollywood spoof.

It wasn't really that funny, but the action was fun and it had a few wink wink moments of stuff we saw in this past. at the partial splitz and him feeling the pain.

It like to see where they take this. Hopefully it gets voted in. Can't be a huge financial commitment for Amazon. The cast isn't big, it's only a 30 minute series and they only have to make 9 more episodes.

"Timecop or Looper?" This was some great fun, I'd be really down for a 4-5 season run of this show, provided they could keep the story and humor as fresh as this pilot. And I'm kind of hoping Brown will be Dolph Lundgren.

I got a kick out of this. I saw a bunch of JCVD movies in the theatre as a teenager, so I'm right in the demographic this show is aiming for.

The dude looks great and can still MOVE, for a guy in his mid 50s.

I thought this was great. Definitely the best of the Amazon pilots I watched.
I'm glad JCVD "gets" JCVD now.

When he was going to delay production, I was hoping he was going to kick someone in the head, then say they missed their mark.
