I've been reading the comments here to see if this thing gets any better, but I couldn't get thru episode one.
Maybe I will give a fresh look over the summer.

The thing is, this is very much a Los Angeles dating show. The mannerisms of both of the main characters are atypical of late 20's early 30's angelenos trying to date. If you goto Echo Park I'd bet a great majority of that age bracket even thinks the show is based on their life story. And if that doesn't appeal to you, the show probably won't either.

You know what. No. I refuse to believe that. This show was just... not great.
You want a Los Angeles love story that was done better? Watch You're the Worst. It was done a whole lot better and tackled a lot of the similar material.
Gus isn't so much of a nice guy than he is just someone who lacks any confidence and buckles at the drop of a dime. He's a pretty bad jerk and fails to see or, much like Mickey doesn't realize his own self worth. He had various girls essentially throw themselves at him in the course of what I've seen through 7 episodes. It's just super awkward to watch because he is super awkward.
Mickey's also in the same boat where she wants to believe she's not worth something that isn't a train wreck of a situation, but honestly, she's a pretty flawed character that has very little redeeming values.
The show was cringe worthy to watch. More so than Married. And that's saying a lot. But honestly, I think this show missed the mark on what it tried to do where YOU'RE THE WORST hit it perfectly in touching those same sort of points with a lot more success.

I like both this and You're the Worst, they're both well done but they're very different kinds of people. I know plenty of both.

I enjoyed the series, and will watch the next.
I didn't realize it at the time, but Steve Buscemi directed the "Magic" episode.

I just don't know what to think if this show. I decided to try something new after House of cards and this show is just fucking strange. Not very funny, almost like a train wreck and I can't look away. Im on Ep 5 so I have to finish it I guess.

I have watched episodes 1-4. I think it's a mixed bag. For some reason, I really liked the storyline with Gus tutoring the child actress. I want to like this show because of Gillian Jacobs. I'll probably watch the rest of the episodes here and there over the next few months.

That's interesting. I was luke warm on the first season but I'll check out season two for a few episodes to see if it gets better.

I got through Season 2 over the weekend. I laughed a bit more than I did at Season 1. I enjoyed it overall. Gillian Jacobs makes the show for me.
I was distracted by the "filming in Atlanta" when "Atlanta" was clearly Universal Studios.

I just glanced at your post, and a spoiler alert might be in order.
I realize it's not an episode specific thread, so any episodes are fair game, but was disappointed to read something in your post, as I haven't gotten to that point. I stopped reading it immediately, so I don't know if there was anything more.

I just finished season one. I started it on Thursday and finished on Sunday. Overall, I really liked it. The house party episode and the really awkward date between Gus and Bertie were my two favorite episodes. I also like the supporting characters Arya (who I didn't know was Apatow's daughter until I looked the cast up on IMDB), the craft services guy, and Bertie (I love her). My main complaint is I just don't see a guy that looks like Gus getting all those good looking women AT&T girl, Briga Heelan, Gillian Jacobs, and the threesome girls. Also, the show has some very awkward cringe-worthy moments where I just have to pause the tv and take a break. I would give the first season a 3.75/5.

Liked season two just as much, if not a little morso, than season one. The only negative that I could even think of would be that 12 episodes seems like a bit much. 10 is perfect for this kind of thing.
Also, season 3 starts filming this morning over in Echo Park.

That's my biggest complaint too. Its not just his looks, its his complete lack of "game." Awkward AND funky looking dudes don't just fall assbackwards into banging hot chicks repeatedly, so that is pretty distracting. Otherwise, its entertaining enough.

The tone of this first half of this 2nd season is totally different than last year. I fully expect this whole thing to come crashing down for them.
