Wynonna Earp (SyFy) -- Series Discussion Thread

Re: Wynonna Earp (SyFy) -- Series Discussion Thread
Episode 2 was uneven, but it has hit its stride in Episodes 2 and 3. It's really just Buffy-ish now which is OK with me. And Waverly is pretty dame talented and hawt

Why does Waverly think everybody is lying to her? Wynonna did not correct Waverly when Waverly said Wynonna saved her from drowning, but if Waverly believes that she has no reason to suspect Wynonna is omitting the truth about it.
Oh, props for Waverly in a bikini.

Johnnysd, I suspect a lot more people are watching but this show will never generate a fraction of the on-line heat that something like Game Of Thrones does. The Friday block of shows that is Killjoys, Dark Matter and Wynonna Earp is just wonderful fun to watch. No regrets being home on a Friday night when genre television is so much fun to watch.

What happened with Peacemaker at the end? Can Wynonna remotely activate it now? And it turned blue, not yellow, and didn't kill the target, just briefly "de-eyed" her.

Loved the finale. Loved how they have fully embraced the Buffyish lingo. Really works well for the show.
You are right, these shows are just FUN.
I agree on the peacemaker question. Will be a mystery for next season. I like how they dont stretch out plotlines and mysteries too long like Waverl's possession.

this is one of those shows I tried really hard to like and just couldn't commit to. I love westerns and the concept is up my alley but somehow it fell flat for me. Surprised to see its in the third season now.

Looks like it got a renewal for season 4. I assume Waverly is the new guardian, which is why she was stuck. That doesn't explain how Julian could leave though. What's the current thinking on what "Paradise" really is?

This show is maddeningly inconsistent. Last season ends with the mother staying in an RV on a mountain. They wait, no she’s been institutionalization the hole time. The show is filled with these type of things. In the finale Julian’s sword can’t be held by a corrupt soul but the big bad is waving it around like he just don’t care. Maddening. The cast is the shows saving grace.

Future in doubt. Not because of SyFy. IDW is having financial troubles: https://deadline.com/2019/02/wynonna...fy-1202562901/
SyFy actually renewed this for 2 more seasons.

I had no idea that IDW was actually shelling out the cash for this series which may explain their financial predicament. You would think they would know better than to use their own money as the old Hollywood adage goes always use other people’s money when financing your projects.
I love the show but if it can only continue by jettisoning some of the core cast for budgetary reasons I would prefer it to end. Wrapping things up in a film is always an option or a comic one shot or mini series could give the fans some sort of wrap up to the unresolved plot points in the last episode.

Interesting on the legal front.
I gave up on this series during the 2nd season when it appeared the focus was going to be soft porn.
It was too ridiculous for me to remain interested....

Soft porn??? Was it the fairly discreet scenes of woman on woman action that bothered you? There were not a ton of these scenes in the show and again...no real nudity on the show. The LGBTQ community loves this show so I am curious if that bothers you. I am not trying to pick a fight, if you are more socially conservative than I am that is cool, I am just befuddled why someone would think this show is softcore porn, Game Of Thrones I could see someone making such a claim but this show, not so much.
I can care less if you are not as woke as the average millennial (FYI...I am not a millennial because I am 47 yrs old) as I am just looking for an honest answer.

It doesn't fit the definition.
The lesbian encounters began to define the 2 characters, bringing nothing to the overall story arc.
It was obviously meant to titillate audiences.

If IDW is having financial difficulties wouldn’t selling the show to Syfy make sense instead of shutting down production? Everybody knows Syfy wants to own everything they broadcast.

I just watched the final episode and yay that the show chose the happy endings route. I really do love this show and it will be missed. Also, it is an extended episode in that there is a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff showing you the filming of the final episode and the casts thoughts on the final episode and how things came together for them at the tend. I feel this was a very satisfying way to close out the show. Even the AV Club had an article up about this show this week so it was nice to see some love being thrown its way from different media outlets.

Re: Wynonna Earp (SyFy) -- Series Discussion Thread
Back when Wynonna Earp wrapped its four-season Syfy run, series creator Emily Andras ventured, “There are a million different reasons to bring Wynonna back.”
It now seems Andras has zeroed in on at least one reason, given the announcement (via Vanity Fair) that your Wynonna Earp favorites are reuniting for a 90-minute movie, to begin filming soon in Calgary and stream on Tubi in late 2024.
Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, penned by Andras herself, will bring back series vets Melanie Scrofano (as Peacemaker-wielding Wynonna), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp) and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught), plus other familiar faces TBA.
As the movie picks up some time after the series-ending wedding between Waverly and Nicole, “Doc and Wynonna have been on an adventure, and Waverly and Nicole have been at home in Purgatory, doing their thing,” Andras told VF. “I think it’s going to be really interesting to see, hopefully, what gets everybody home— maybe facing a challenge they’ve never faced before, something pretty intense.”
In TVLine’s series finale post mortem Q&A with Andras, she conceded that there were “a couple of unresolved issues” that any potential follow-up could tackle.
“We still have Eve, who we kicked out the the Garden very early in the season, and who can kind of shapeshift; she could take on the appearance of any one of our characters! That would certainly throw a wrench in the works in Purgatory,” Andras suggested. “There are a million different reasons to bring Wynonna back, to help out her sister.”
