This story idea all stems from one source- Alan Moore's classic Superman story "For The Man Who Has Everything."

It's considered one of the last great Superman stories before DC Comics rebooted the character.

Pretty much. It's the gold standard and I'm pretty sure Alan Moore is talking to his snake god right now in ways to curse someone.

First thing I thought of was a lyric in the Little Mermaid song 'Part of the World'

Re: Supergirl (S1E13) -- "For The Girl Who Has Everything" -- 2/8/16

I guess Kryptonians die easily in this continuity. I wonder if Kara's villainous aunt dies so soon into the series if the actress playing her was better? Did the young Kal-El even get one line of dialogue? His inclusion in Kara's fantasy world seems to have merely been for CBS's marketing department to trumpet his appearance in the blogosphere.

I did like seeing Martian Manhunter fighting Kara's aunt and Winn's goofy presence is finally growing on me. Apparently Kara's father is an afterthought on this show. It was pretty clear to me the writers had little idea of what to do with him, so mostly left him alone in the fantasy sequence.

Alan Moore got ZERO credit for this episode...I smell a lawsuit...as soon as word reaches his cave.

"Now I get Argo Fever every time I see her
But she's a night club teaser not paid to notice me
Yes, I get Argo Fever if she knew how much I need her
She'd place her hand in my hand and dance away with me."

Thought it was another great episode, and always glad to see Manhunter get some more screen time.

Do they normally give credits to the various elements in the show? I can see Supergirl's creator getting it but not stuff like Jimmy Olson created by.... Or Cat Grant created by...

After all the reminding of Kara's cousin being a great hero since the first episode, shouldn't the Kryptonian's have had some type of plan to deal with him?

I think the idea they'd be able to do what they wanted in secret and he's too far away to do anything in time.

Alan Moore doesn't want credit. He's asked that his name not be included in the credits of adaptations of his work.

They could always credit Moore as the "The Writer" which is how Marvel handled it with Miracleman.

I doubt Alan Moore would approve of this adaptation anyway. It would have been nice if this episode had shown Kara's fantasy life on Krypton a little longer. She suspected something was wrong almost from the first moment.

Watched this after the episode after someone referred to it. I had seen it before, but was cool to watch again.

According to the writers, the actress is starting a Broadway show and she wasn't able to finish in that roll. She will still play Kara's mom and show up later probably in a flashback.

Yeah, previously he didn't care what folks did with their adaptations as long as the check cleared... until Fox was sued for plagiarism over The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Moore was run through the ringer in court, and Fox settled (which made Moore feel like they were admitting his guilt). Since then, he's asked that his name be taken off all adaptations, that his name not be mentioned in any promotional material, and that his share of the proceeds be given to his collaborators.

He's also gone on record as saying the JLU adaptation of "For the Man Who Has Everything" was superior to his original story.

Why would you dump a high-paying network TV gig to star on Broadway?

Because Laura Benanti is a Broadway trained actress/singer and her role on Supergirl is only recurring. Signing up for Broadway show is a long-term steady paying gig for months.

Moore hasn't actually said what he thought of the JLU episode, though he did give them approval to adapt his story. The topic was covered in last week's Comic Book Legends revealed:

Although in this case, it should be "The Moore You Know". Thanks!
