Re: Black Sails (S3E02) -- "XX" -- 1/30/16

Best episode yet.

Afterwards wrap said they spent 30 days on the storm scene.

That was 30 days well spent.

Not a wasted moment in this episode. Ray Stephenson was brilliant (well, all the cast were). Great directing choices (the blurry figures seen outside the window behind Teach with shouting sound effects as he continued his discourse with Vane & Rackham was brilliant).

Lovely dialogue, too: "No, lost as in I set it down, and it warne't there when I went back to get it."

Whore: Just how stupid ARE your men?
Rackham (after slight pause): Hard to say.

The storm sequences in this episode were spectacular. Awesome visual FX.

Surprised that Blackbeard was so "friendly" with Charles Vane.

Re: Black Sails (S3E02) -- "XX" -- 1/30/16

That storm sequence was everything one could want from a show if they were looking for great at sea action. But IMO the best scene at sea was between Silver and the other guy that eventually drowned after he got trapped. The action was fun to watch, but other than Flint eventually sacrificing those at the top of the rigs when he cut them off, the episode would have been fine with only a minute of so of the storm footage.

I'm really looking forward to see if Blackbeard is going to take this show over. Certainly seems like it could go in that direction.

Re: Black Sails (S3E03) -- "XXI" -- 2/6/16

Not much action in this episode. But I enjoyed seeing Flint and his crew battle the elements being lost at sea. Flint is battling his inner demons and the crew his thirsty and starving. I'm guessing that Flint was finally getting some closure in his visions on the death of his friend.

I sense a full out war coming to Nassau. Especially with Vane being a wanted man and collaborating with Blackbeard.

Another great episode.

Ray Stephenson is slaying (literally & figuratively) as Blackbeard.

Eleanor looks really nice in a dress, too. How long until she becomes an item with Woodes Rogers? http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20141222180919

Unless one counts the struggle with the shark, there was no action. Which is what I love about this show. The ship battles, and the hunt for Vane, in the next episode are well setup now.

Despite it being the obvious conclusion, Backbeard's taking over, and his plan working was still worth all the setup. The scene with the future Governor being told he lost all his support was priceless.

Black Sails is becoming one of my most anticipated shows to watch each week. When it the episode is over, I'm instantly wanting more! Can't say that about most of the other stuff I'm watching.

I enjoyed the crew toughing it out on the sea stranded, the struggle with the shark, etc. These are the moments that really make the show for me. John Silver is easily my favorite of the cast too. My least favorite character is that ex-whore that speaks with that odd accent.

Re: Black Sails (S3E04) -- "XXII" -- 2/13/16

Pretty good episode last night.

That sea battle was pretty cool.

Flint and his crew being captured and imprisoned by escaped slaves was an interesting turn.

So far good balance with characters, action and story.

Going to be some pretty big ramifications with that ending.

Agreed wholeheartedly. This show has made noticeable improvements since its first season and this current one has been off to a fantastic start. I think they finally figured out the balance and formula that works to keep things engaging.

One thing that helped was they toned down the (admittedly R-rated) "Pirates of the Caribbean" shtick.

And the merkin industry has been shut down as a result.

I agree that this is the best season so far.

Re: Black Sails (S3E04) -- "XXII" -- 2/13/16

Excellent episode in every way. Loved the scene where Teach saves Vane just in time. Knew it was coming, but still a great pay off.

Flint and Silver should talk the island inhabitants into helping them take back Nassau. Would be awesome to see the reaction of the Red Coats when hundreds of men jump out of their ship.

Played out exactly how I thought it would (joining with the slaves to take back Nassau) but it still was an entertaining watch.

Yes, next week should be amazing.

I can't think of a show that has had this type of a turnaround.

Sound like a broken record, but I would pay to see a spinoff or movie with Ray Stephenson as Blackbeard. The guy steals every scene...all he has to do is close or raise his eyes.

Pirate crush!

Re: Black Sails (S3E06) -- "XXIV" -- 2/27/16

Great episode.

I actually went Oh shit, when Flint shot Blackbeard and for a millisecond thought he was dead. But, Blackbeard is such an iconic character in this world, there was no that he was being killed off this soon.

This show is so unpredictable. I can never guess what's happening next.
