Umm...no. Mulder's always had great one liners with the girls. He picks them up from all the porn movies he watches.

Just finished it via Hulu.
Good to see Mulder and Scully along with Skinner again. But it felt very rushed. Carter should have written a 2 hour premiere and given the story and set up some time to breathe. I felt like they jammed in so much into the 44 minutes. The opening narration by Mulder obviously served as a way to introduce new fans to the show.
But it was nowhere near as God awful as some of these critics made it to to be. My only real complaint is the flashbacks could have been structured better. Felt like they were just thrown in there to re-inforce this is a Alien conspiracy show.

No, while I didn't hate it as much as the critics (probably because I adjusted my expectations), I totally understand the critic hate. Besides the horrible dialog I already brought up, it was poorly shot, it had no story, no actual stakes, and very little logic. It was just plain bad in a very objective sense.

This was by far the biggest problem for me with the episode. It was a whole lot of tepid nothingness. I'm totally fine with hokey dialogue (the original series is filled with it) as long as it's servicing an actual story. Instead we just got a lot of talking because the episode needed to take up 44 minutes worth of time. The "drama" here was completely artificial and there was no hook whatsoever other than the fact that it's new X-files so of course I'm going to watch. Less important was just how darn cheap it looked. The effects were obviously much improved over what we got in the 90's, but just about everything else looked about on par with some crappy Scyfy original. Very disappointing.

Decent episode but definitely rusty. It lacked a decent incident or body (died from mysterious causes) to kick things off on Mulder's end. Way too much exposition for the MythArc and to set things up. The episode really needed to be at least 90 minutes to get going.
I do think the show only being 6 episodes is a big disservice to everyone involved, not just the fans. The cast & crew need a couple episodes to shake the rust off, then a couple more to really get going. Toss in a couple-a-few MOTW and close out with a couple MythArc episodes. I still think twelve episodes would have been the sweet spot.
I probably stand alone on this one, but I think they really needed to update the opening sequence. It just felt dated. The episode had an updated take on the theme that was pretty solid. Use that, along with updating the visuals, especially Mulder, Scully & Skinner's FBI photos. With the recent reopening of the X-files, it would have made sense that they would be issued new IDs. That aside, I imagine the FBI makes agents update their ID's more than once every 25 years anyway.
If you Google Gibson Praise, the fourth or fifth image that pops up is the Doc from the beginning that wraps up and carries off the alien body. Just someone's theory that the Doc is Gibson and those weren't flashbacks. He does bear a remarkable resemblance to young Gibson.
I kinda like that theory.

I loved they kept the classic opening credits.
Six episodes isn't enough but Fox wants to see if there is still an audience for this show before committing a full season. Duchovny and Anderson would cost mega-bucks for a full season.

Duchovny said in a recent interview I read that he would consider doing 10-12 episodes again, but no to 22-24.

When the game was running long, I added an extra 8-8:30 slot to my DVR, which it recorded, but it failed to record the original 7-8 p.m. program. Just watched it on demand instead. I was really excited when the episode started, and seeing Mulder and Scully again was almost as fun as seeing the original Star Wars characters again. But overall I thought it was pretty meh. I'll keep watching, though, because it's only six episodes and it's The X-Files. I hope it's true that the episodes get better.

I hope fans don't bail after this disappointing premiere episode. Watch the second episode, I promise you will feel differently after seeing it.

When Mulder was listing all of the UFO encounters at the beginning of the episode I was hoping he would talk about the Sioux Falls incident in 1979.

This is what confused me the most about it. The X-Files pushed television cinematography forward, and especially in its heyday (seasons 3-6 or so) it was one of the best looking shows on television and still looks amazing.
This premiere looked like an HD version of a '90s full motion videogame.
The second episode looked better, but I don't know. Is this just what network stuff looks like now? I haven't watched a network drama in years.

One small detail I always grew to appreciate was their flashlights. I recall a seeing a BtS or bonus feature talking about how they had to create their own flashlights to get the look they wanted back in the day.
I don't recall if it was the premier or episode 2, but they had some stock MagLites that had a terrible glow to them.
Minor quibble, but the details are what made the show great.

It's obvious you never worked for the federal government.
Seriously though, I just thought of this:
The LAST episode of this six-episode run is Part II of "My Struggle" - which means it was most likely shot at the same time as this premiere, and divided up into two episodes. That means the finale of this run is going to be pretty weak...and probably a big letdown after watching Episodes 2 through 5.

Critics are stupid. This episode was just fine. No problem with it. Wasn't the greatest, but it was still a solid episode.
