Re: Billions (S1E03) -- "YumTime" -- 1/31/16

I thought they could have delved into the "tell all" book subplot a bit more. That could have been a season arc or something instead of the approach they took with Lara making petty moves that were contained in a single episode. I get what they were trying to accomplish, but the opening and closing sequences with Chuck were a bit heavy-handed.

This show is still trying to find its footing. Not unexpected at this point.

Yea, it came and went pretty quickly. Did they even state what damning information on Axe the omitted chapter contained? I wasn't paying full attention in some scenes and may have missed it.

I rolled my eyes when Chuck delivered another "message" to the viewers about the importance of rules through the use of cleaning up dog shit. We get it Chuck, you're doing your job and most uphold the law and everyone should follow the laws as well. Really didn't need the bookmark ending to confirm his message.

I'm liking this show more and more. The book subplot was pretty simple. The woman had a lot of inside information about the things Bobby did after 9/11, some of it may have been illegal. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the subplot comes back up in the future.

Yeah the 9/11 subplot with definitely be coming back.

Credit to Damien Lewis for making a character who on paper and in real life would be hate-able and maybe reviled to be one that I am rooting for and hoping he wins despite maybe not being above board.

I like Damien Lewis but I'm not rooting for Bobby Axelrod. He's not a hero; He's an antihero at best. He's Vic Mackey. He's Tony Soprano. He's the protagonist who has some admirable qualities although we don't necessarily support his overall values. We can appreciate the skills involved in achieving success without condoning the overall person.

I've always been interested in people like Michael Milken. I read Billionaire Boys Club. There were times when I wanted to be those people. Ultimately, I could see no way to achieve that and be who I wanted to be, so I had to make a choice. But I still find it fascinating. And I certainly can understand those who choose differently.

We don't know all there is to know about Bobby Axelrod at this point. We've seen he and his wife do some "destructive" things to people, but there's an undercurrent of morality he has. At least some of the people he's been destructive towards aren't necessarily angels themselves.

I'm enjoying the show so far.

at Chuck intimidating that guy to hand pick the dog shit.

That was a great takeover by Axe on the cake company.

Well I rooted for Vic Mackey, Tony Soprano, Walter White, etc. It's a credit to the actor's ability. In real life, of course I would be rooting for their demise, but on a fictional show I want them to win.

Wasn't buying that any of them were Metallica fans. Even Axe.

That ending was interesting, but I'm sure he's bluffing, otherwise that'd be pretty nuts for a show to do a 180 so soon after starting.

I really like this show... all that behind the seen dealing. Axe turning down that girl was pretty impressive, I like how he got up super fast and left.

She was a redhead on Halt and Catch fire.

Also good seeing Noah E, small role tho, wonder if they have a bigger play in mind for him.

Good ep overall.

When Axe mentioned not "holding on to a loser" it seemed pretty clear he was talking about Noah, backed up by him leaving without him in the morning. I guess that doesn't rule out his return, but I would be surprised.

^ It would be the ultimate douchebag move after Axe bailed him out, and made him some money, but yeah, I could see that happening. Otherwise, there's no real payoff regarding that storyline, in the overall story arc.

My wife pointed out that there are no attractive people on this show. Even Axelrod's wife and the woman who hit on him are just meh. (And like that chick would be opening for Metallica.)

Malin Akerman is hot, but that haircut isn't doing her forehead any favors.

Yeah, Malin Akerman is very hot. Just that they cast the women who was hitting on him to look similar to Malin. So there's that.

Re: Billions (S1E02) -- "Naming Rights" -- 1/24/16

Although I love the cast, this is just another mediocre/good show on TV right now. There are too many great shows on right now that I just don't have time to watch shows like these that are probably good but not great.

If I have to force myself to watch a show then I usually drop it, as the only shows I watch anymore are the ones leaving me wanting more at the end of each episode.

Even naked, Brody's wife isn't hot.

And thank god they didn't go back to that S&M club with Paul Giamatti. What the fuck? Unless this info is used against Giamatti later, this whole lurid kinky sex side is stupid.
