Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix
https://pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress...6&h=299&crop=1
The Punisher, actor Jon Bernthal’s character from Netflix’s Daredevil, will get his own Netflix spinoff series from Marvel, Deadline has confirmed. The character makes his debut when Daredevil begins its second season March 18. No date has been set for The Punisher bow, which was first reported by TVLine. Not big on the choice, but more Marvel is OK. |

Neat.

Loved their first two series, particularly Jessica Jones, so I'm definetly in for this.

Not really a shocking pick. I'm guessing this probably won't be ready until late 2017 or early 2018.

I assume they must have really liked what they saw during Daredevil. More characters getting their own series sounds good to me.

My friend and I met Jon at a con last November and we asked him about the possibility of him getting a show.
He smiled and said he couldn't talk about it. We knew it was just a matter of time for an announcement. |

Yeah. This is going to be the most popular one probably.
I liked Jane but hated his movie. Loved Stevenson but his movie had badass action w/ a really crappy script. Alexander though directed the shit out of the action. Too bad most of the film was beyond her control. |

I do have high hopes for this new series though. Punisher has a shit ton of stories that are just ready to be adapted for the screen. Hopefully Ennis gets called in to help write. |

I also really enjoyed Warzone.
Fwiw, this series has apparently been de-confirmed, for now. |

re: Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix
After seeing the tepid response to Into The Badlands, I bet Marvel thinks the Punisher is a more viable candidate to get his own show. There is a much clearer path to success with the Punisher than Iron Fist. He's the safer bet.

The Punisher is an A property for Marvel, though they fear giving him a movie thanks to the previous three attempts. This show should kick ass.

They also probably wouldn't be able to do a Punisher movie the way that a Punisher movie really needs to be done under Disney.

I think Marvel would shuttle "harder" superhero fare towards Netflix. I don't think they want to start making R-rated superhero films as it may pollute their billion-dollar movie franchises.

----------- via Digital Spy: The Punisher TV series: Marvel Television boss pours cold water on spinoff rumours Netflix will go un-Punished, as Jeph Loeb dismisses recent reports of a Frank Castle show. Jon Bernthal will play The Punisher on Netflix's Daredevil - but is the Marvel anti-hero getting his own spinoff to boot? Jeph Loeb - Marvel Television's Executive Vice President - told press including Digital Spy that fans shouldn't trust the rumour mill. "I think that's something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that's actually happening," he said. "It's certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them." Loeb also addressed the lack of awards recognition for both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, insisting that Marvel is "not in this in order to be in the award business". "What we're really trying to do is to tell the best stories that we can," he said. "For us, the greatest award was when Netflix called and said, 'We'd like to do another season with you'. "When they announced that Jessica Jones was getting a second season, every single report said, 'It should come as a surprise to no one that Jessica Jones has received a second season order'. I'm the guy going, 'Well, it was a surprise to me!' "It isn't a given in television. The fact that we get to continue telling stories with these characters speaks a lot about the quality of the storytelling and the acting and the writing. We are telling the best stories that we can at Netflix, and they seem to be responding to it." I think it'd be a bad move to not have a show around Frank Castle. Not sure why he'd say what he said even if Marvel was working on it. He could just say that it's a possibility. And that's that. If they're not... that's a bummer. |

I actually like Warzone for the batshit insane movie it is. A lot of that loves stems from Stevenson being about as perfect casting for a comic character as there has ever been. He just looked like Castle jumped off of the page, and he also played Castle like a force of nature which just tickled my funny bone.

re: Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix
well shit, guess i gotta give Warzone a whirl

re: Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix
Yeah. Shit story but when it's focused on Castle and his actions? It's pretty solid. Looney Bin Jim was awesome. Took crazy to play crazy.

I saw the film in theaters. I think I was the only one there. Lionsgate didn't push it all too well. It was only in theaters for like 2 weeks around me... 30 miles away.

----------- via Digital Spy: Apparently Jones is getting a second season. Didn't know that. Good for them. I know Jones but beyond Purple Man (Killgrave) who else does she have of value for a baddie? I think it'd be a bad move to not have a show around Frank Castle. Not sure why he'd say what he said even if Marvel was working on it. He could just say that it's a possibility. And that's that. Re: Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix
Full statement from Marvel:
This good deed goes unpunished! Netflix has ordered a full first season of “Marvel’s The Punisher,” continuing their unprecedented collaboration with Marvel Television. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, introduced to fans earlier this year in the second season of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” with Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes. “We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,'” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, “Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring 'Marvel’s The Punisher' to Netflix.” “Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in 'Marvel’s Daredevil,' and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of Steve Lightfoot,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content. “For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.” “Marvel’s The Punisher” marks the sixth series ordered thus far as part of the groundbreaking collaboration between Marvel Television and Netflix including the upcoming “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” “Marvel’s The Defenders” and the Peabody Award-winning “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.” “Marvel’s The Punisher” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
