Re: Childhood's End (SyFy) -- 3-Night MiniSeries Event -- Premieres 12/14/15

It was a very ............okay..............type moment when it ended. So it took eightly years for that to happen to the Earth? The kids started flying into the sky a long time before Milo got back and that timing was something.

Things just kind of happen. So humans go from what they were to that within one generation because.............

If it took eightly years all the adults could have just gone about their business as it looks to have taken eighty years. Of course millions of people lost their kids, that's going to cause some major issues.

Sigh. I love this book. I was nervous about the series. Obviously, I had reason to be. I will pass on watching it.

So at pretty much the exact time Milo shows up, that's when Jennifer is done absorbing and transferring the earth's energy. And how much real time is supposed to have passed at that point?

I give it 79pts. Not terrible, like NBC's abortive attempt to make The Martian Chronicles, not as good as SyFy's Dune. About an hour too long.

That's a point that I found confusing. We start with her at the top of that plateau, then we cut to the Milo sequence which is some 80 years or more, and then we return to her in the same place doing the same thing (or just wrapping up).

i liked it except for the end with Jennifer. They didnt explain at all what was going on. It should have been the culmination of the entire series, but changing the original ending to just 1 girl absorbing the planet weakens it. In the book its all of the kids learning how to manipulate energy and the destruction of the earth is basically just them testing and playing with their new abilities. And since they've evolved into energy they dont really care about the physical planet.

Well ... bad news - we waded through it, good news - DVR space for the Expanse.

This made little sense (and reading the deviations from the book makes me wonder what in the heck the writers were thinking) especially in hours 2 and 3.

I read the book probably 20yrs ago and was hoping it would be made into a movie- I was saddened to learn when SyFy picked it up and my concerns turned out to be true. I thought it was a terrible adaption, typical SyFy.

More accurately, in the book only the alterations of the moon and the Earth were them playing and testing. The final destruction of the Earth was of necessity, the children reducing it to energy to feed their final transformation and exodus. And the Earth didn't explode (at least not an explosion of matter, just energy) as in the series, it dissolved and vanished.

They didn't explain it was a necessity of evolution- they made it seem as if was evil. It wasn't- in the book it was just the natural order of the universe.

Whoever the idiots were who adapted the book probably didn't understand the ending in the first place.

I didn't even know about this, but reading the synopsis in the first post seemed just like the show "V" to me.

I missed it, as I pay attention to syfy about as much as I do the home shopping channels. Will this be endlessly rerun so I can DVR it, or will it go into a black hole so they can run more Asylum movies over and over again?

Syfy isn't huge about repeating their big mini-series events much past the first week of broadcast.

Just watched this. I'm now really scared about their upcoming Ringworld adaptation...
