We saw No Retreat and it was really funny as expected.

Maybe someone connected to us here will buy a Kickstarter level that includes one of the Q&A sessions and can ask them.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

I watched the livestream even yesterday and I really dug Emily and the new crew, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of her. The grocery store short was really fun.

And then the whole crew watching Mike riffing Hobgoblins was just awesome. I've seen the ep before and it's not a top ep for me, but something about other peoples' laughter is contagious and I found myself actually lol'ing many times. And it was Joel's first time ever watching the ep and that was really neat to see. It was great to hear Joel repeatedly compliment Mike (like when he says "I just wanted a really good Thermos", Joel says "that's a great Mike line").

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

Funny enough, I just started watching this show. I'd seen a little during its original airing, but didn't really get it as a kid. In college I got into bad movies and saw a few of the Rifftrax Live while working projection.

Well, Saturday I got my 2nd Moderna shot and Sunday I was in bed all day, so I threw on the ones on Amazon and the new stuff from Netflix. I've actually yet to see any of the Joel episodes (partly because it weirds me out when other people have my name, I've actually never officially met another Joel).

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

There are a bunch more live events coming to Youtube/Twitch/Facebook live:

Everything is 8 p.m. EST, except Saturday and Sunday, which are 2:30 p.m. EST.

Thursday: Untamed Youth with Joel and guest J Elvis Weinstein.

Friday: Quest of the Delta Knights with Joel and guest Mary Jo Pehl

Saturday: Gamera vs. Guiron, with Joel revealing some movie titles from season 13.

Sunday: Movie TBA, Joel will reveal the final stretch goals.

Monday: Team Jonah vs. Team Emily in a series of Jackbox games. This one seems like it will be really fun, since the audience can vote on their answers.

Tuesday: Movie and guest TBA.

A few years back I met a kid named Joel, but it was pronounced Joe-L, kind of like Superman's dad with no R. I couldn't imagine how frustrating that must be, to have a commonly spelled name with an unusual pronounciation.

Well, I kind of can, since I have a common name with an unusual spelling.

Btw. Shouldn’t someone merge these two topics on Mst3k?

it’s in two sub forums and all the info is repeated.

Most people in the world and the US have it as two syllables and more often than not, restaurants/cafes will call out for "Jo-El". I believe one syllable is only based on the British Isles' pronunciation. Most people I've met since leaving Michigan are surprised at the way I pronounce it (single syllable).

Most people in the US pronounce it Joe-El? News to me. but I'm also from Michigan

But I mean, Joel Schumacher, Haley Joel Osmont, Joel McHale, Joel Coen, Billy Joel... Not a Joe-El among them.

I mean I have heard Joe-El before, but usually it is from people of different ethnic backgrounds.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

This was my first Joe-L, and as someone named Joe with a last name starting with L, I've been called Joel a lot.

Going back to what Whotony said (I'm now wondering if your name is pronounced Whot-ony?), I think it would make sense to focus Kickstarter stuff here, in the forum with more visitors. That way Rifftrax and Mads stuff and possible future MST3K DVD stuff has a different home.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

J Elvis Weinstein will be returning as Dr. Larry Erhardt and Mary Jo Pehl will be back as Dr. Pearl Forrester. Both will be writing for the new season as well.

Since Bill Corbett is a guest for a livescreening this week, I'm guessing he'll be announced as returning as Brain Guy and writing as well. And I'll bet that when the Joel episode is unlocked that Weinstein and Corbett will be announced as his Tom Servo and Crow, just like they were for the charity shorts Joel, Josh and Bill did together last summer.

Beez McKeever was also announced as returning to do human and robot costumes.

The Kickstarter also unlocked doing a 3D movie and free 3D glasses for backers at $75 and above.

Isn’t Beez Mike’s wife?

I’d love to see him back too.

No, Mike is married to fellow MST3K writer and alum Bridget (Jones) Nelson.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

And it’s funded.

At this point $85 gets you 12 new episodes, 12 new shorts, 11 classic episodes, 20 classic shorts, a 12 month membership to the Gizmoplex, a month of RiffTrax Friends and several RiffTrax goodies, including a live RiffTrax event in the GizmoPlex.

^ I am tempted to change to the all digital level since the physical rewards really don’t thrill me this time.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

Wow, we did it!

I went for that $85 digital level you're describing, majorjoe23, I think that's a reasonable price for all of that content.

For me, I always have to remember I have access to digital content. I'm pretty sure there are still tons of digital MST3K / Rifftrax items that I haven't actually watched or listened to, because it's not "on the shelf," so it's out of mind.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

I edited to add a $10 1-month gift access to Gizmoplex for my brother-in-law and his spouse. They're huge MST3K fans but somehow I don't think the Kickstarter was on their radar. We used to go to the Rifftrax live Fathom events so this feels like a fun gift. And I think the live events on the Gizmoplex could make for a fun night for all of us in one of our homes, too.

I will say, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Gizmoplex completely, but I trust they did a lot of homework on it first. The name is tough, I'll add that. "Gizmo" is easy, because of Gizmonic Institute and all that, but when I went to type this post I was like "...gift access to Gizmo... tron? rama? dome? *looks it up* Oh. Plex. Huh. Shoulda gone with 'dome.'"

I've never heard it pronounced "Joe-El". I had a friend in middle school named "Joel" and he pronounced it with one syllable, that's the only way I've ever heard the name pronounced (including the names mentioned above).

It is looking like the secret bonus for all backers with the final challenge of reaching $5.8M is going to happen, too. Currently about $5.7M and flying.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

I donated $5 yesterday. Have a trip next week and need to save money, but wanted to contribute. Just happy to have more stuff. Also probably a generational thing, but Jonah is my host of choice. I like Mike, too, but felt that Joel was low-energy (I know his style is a main appeal for his fans, so no hate on my part, just not my style).

I'm really glad this happened, something like MST3K needs to be a legacy franchise since there's always going to be bad movies.
