Re: Fargo (S2E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Waiting for Dutch" -- 10/12/15
Saw an interview with Dunst where she was apparently asked to put on some weight (wonder if they made the same request for Plemons)
Solid opening - I liked the deliberate pace and how they let this show breathe; it really sticks out where most season openers on TV these days seem packed wall to wall with too much crap going on to setup an entire season in 1 hour.
Wasn't sure what to think of Donovan (Burn Notice) in this - but I liked him in that role. Also found the final scene hilarious how things were presented.

Why can't we get some answers about Meth Damon's weight gain?!
Other than that, awesome.

Makes sense about Dunst and Plemons, as it does make them seem more normal average joe's.
God, I loved that premier. I didn't want to hype myself up going into this, but that surpassed anything I was expecting.

Really solid premier! As others have stated, it's amazing how cinematically this is filmed, and how they take their time to get the story going. You literally never know what could happen next. With this being set in the late 70s, it almost gave me a Twin Peaks vibe.
I will say however, I think I still prefer the season premier of the first season better. It definitely felt more like "FARGO," but maybe like "The Office," this is the season where the show really finds its own identity.

I was kinda hoping Kieran Culkin's character would be connected to Steve Buscemi's character from the movie since they look so alike. Maybe a cousin or something, younger brother even. Wouldn't be outlandish since this takes place in 79 and the movie in 87.

I enjoyed the premiere.
I was worried Season 2 would have too similar a feel to S1 (and the movie), but it definitely has it's own feel. Early on when the brothers were talking in the parking lot - it really had a strong 70's east coast Canada vibe to it with the surroundings and the accent... similar to the movie New Waterford Girl.
I'd prefer there were no tie-in's to S1 or the movie other than the location. Once was enough.
"Based on a true story" is always an in-joke with the show/movie, but driving home with a body stuck in the windshield is definitely a true story. The movie "Stuck" with Mena Suvari covered that territory.
I'm sure the UFO aspect won't have any factor in the story line, but there were many UFO's reported in Minnesota in 1979 - including a story about a policy officer who's car was hit by one. With regards to the show, I'll treat the UFO part like S1's fish falling from the sky - nothing to concern ourselves over.

What the fuck? I didn't recognize Danson (and I was the host of the Cheers viewing club ) , Plemons (until a little into it) or Dunst. Wasn't positive that was Culkin until going through this thread either. So I guess A+ for immersion there.
Great start to the season.

Love it despite being freaked out by Dunst's new look. That will take some getting used to.

We'll be getting at least one more returning character : Ben Schmitt who was Gus Grimley's commanding officer in the Deluth PD has a complicated history with Lou going back to the Sioux Falls incident (which actually is the first time we hear about it in Season 1).
He'll be played by Keir O'Donnell in S2.
BTW : Do I really have to watch Cristin Milioti slowly die at a young age from cancer, leaving behind her young child to be raised alone by her widowed husband again?

So Patrick Wilson turns into Keith Carradine after 25 years. Not buying the ageing transformation.

Watching the premier made me angry at the other 98% of television that is garbage compared to this.

my only beef is the matter of fact attitude with danson and wilson making chit chat after discovering the grisly scene, and also the same thing nonchalant at the bingo night..
other than that, great start

That struck me as odd also. Part of the "Fargo recipe" is how out of the ordinary these violent events are, particularly in small communities. But I guess another part of the recipe is how "matter of fact" the lead cop handles it.
