Last night's episode was fun, but quite silly.

Very rare case of the week episode. But, I enjoyed the whole back and forth thing with that song copyright suit. Some of it did get a little absurd though. Matthew Lillard was quite over the top.

At least Alicia and Eli didn't kiss and make up right away. She's still pretty pissed.

Ugh, Lillard. I knew him in high school, nice guy, but he was annoying then and he's just as annoying now.

So is Mackenzie Vega's screentime going to be reduced now? This is the best use of the Florrick children since...ever.

bringing in Matthew Lillard's recording artist character, but I was taken aback by Luca sleeping with his character. Very Kalinda-like.

None of those childrens songs featured could hold a candle to Thicky Trick:

Re: The Good Wife (CBS) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/04/15

Ever since CBS announced that “The Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King would be leaving the show following its current season, speculation has been mounting that the CBS legal drama could be ending.

Star Julianna Margulies may have poured fuel on that fire during a speech to honor the Kings at the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards, in which she reportedly said, per Vulture, “I surprised Robert and Michelle tonight. They didn’t know I was going to be here. They think I’m here for them, but I’m unemployed come April, and I think you haven’t seen me in a while — at least not in person — so I thought I should show up.”

No decision has yet been made on whether the show will return for an eighth season, but there’s speculation that CBS may look to try to bring the show back for a short final season of 10 to 13 episodes, but it’s unlikely to return for a full season.

CBS president Glenn Geller told reporters at the network’s recent Television Critics Assn. press tour presentation that he feels “the show can absolutely continue” without the Kings. The producers are also otherwise occupied with their upcoming comic thriller, “Brain Dead,” which is set for a summer debut. It’s part of their overall deal with CBS TV Studios, which also produces “The Good Wife.”

The series has already weathered two high-profile exits in front of the camera — Josh Charles left the show in Season 5, while Archie Panjabi exited at the end of Season 6 — but it’s hard to imagine “The Good Wife” continuing without its titular Good Wife.

Re: The Good Wife (CBS) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/04/15

Just caught up with the new episode and was glad to see a number of posts on it.

I'd be OK with the show ending after this season assuming they can wrap things up in a satisfying way. I don't like the idea of Alicia going back to the firm but that would be a way to bring things full circle at the end. And fortunately they have redeemed themselves with this season after the last one. That would've been a sad way to go out.

I didn't know him, but as this character he reminds me so much of a former co-worker that I always do a double-take.

That's funny because he looks/talks exactly like my company President. He said people even used to call him Shaggy.

I think the show should end after season 7. That's what the creators Robert and Michelle King envisioned from the beginning and all the actors contracts expire after this season including Julianna.

It had a really good run. Let it end on a good note with the original creators still there.

Although if it ends this season, it will end at its low point.

Anyone else feeling let down by this season? Almost gave up on it, but I enjoyed the Vanessa Williams/Alan Cumming pairing and the big reveal by Eli to Alicia about Will's message is one of the series' highlights, IMO. But everything else feels way off from prior seasons.

Here's what I'm not enjoying:

1. Lucca. A wholly unnecessary addition to the cast.
2. No Bishop. (Loved the character and love the actor who plays him.)
3. The whole Peter-for-President arc is lame.
4. The tired weekly ripped-from-the-headlines court cases. There hasn't been anything original in months. (Although the bribed-judge subplot is kinda interesting.)
5. Not nearly enough Christine Baranski, Michael J. Fox, or Matt Czuchry (he's been my favorite since the first episode).
6. Morgan is decent, but they haven't done much with his character (yet?).

Just doesn't have the energy, nor the charm, of season's past.

What do the rest of you think?

I agree too. Let's see what happens when she goes back to the offices next episode.

I'll be the contrarian and disagree. The show was at its low point last season. This season hasn't been as good as it was in the early years, but at least it's been better than that.

Super Bowl commercial said that this was the final season. At times this has been my favorite network show, but it's a good time to end it.

Interview with CBS president, The Kings and Margulies about it being the final season.

Wise decision. 7 seasons is what the Kings envisioned and it's the right time.

Margulies just posted this on Facebook

I just wanted to make sure everyone saw the news about The Good Wife. It was just announced during the Super Bowl, but i didn't want anyone to miss the news. Thank you for 7 years of support, love, and encouragement. I have loved playing Alicia, and I trust you, the final season will not disappoint.

Hopefully that means exciting stuff will happen. She'll end up divorcing peter so she can be with Morgan, or something dumb like that.

Why would it be dumb to divorce someone you're not in love with (and who has repeatedly treated you badly) to be with someone you are in love with, especially once your kids are grown?

I don't take divorce lightly, but Alicia and Peter are already divorced in just about every way that matters. Even their children don't consider them together anymore. They're mostly keeping up appearances for politics.

The show has been about what's involved in being The Good Wife to a politician caught in a cheating scandal. They've shown us a lot of what might be involved. Deciding to no longer be The Good Wife anymore seems a perfectly valid option for how to end it.

Re: The Good Wife (CBS) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/04/15

Just got caught up with the last 3 episodes.

Was only a matter of time before Alicia would start banging Jason. I have to admit that Julianna does have good chemistry with JDM.

Totally forgot that those NSA sleazeballs were still monitoring Alicia. I wonder if there's going to be some kind of payoff with that?

I guess there's no new episode tomorrow because of the Oscars on ABC.

Last night's was a really annoying episode for me. I really fucking hate her mom, and the constant stream of people showing up to her house really irked me for some reason.

Yup - I hated her on the West Wing, and I gate her even more on the good wife. Ugh.

the whole Eli listening to the grand jury thing was already done with Eli trying to listen to Ruth through the ventilation.

It's just setup for the remaingin episodes.

I like how this episode returned to the tradition of interesting judges. Denis O'Hare was awesome, though I'm sure some people will hate the "liberal agenda."

The Jason and college stuff were meh, but I liked the grand jury thing. Eli looks so ludicrous listening in.

I agree - the grand just storyline was the only interesting part of this episode. This show is ready to end. If it wasn't the last season, I'm not sure I'd continue watching.
