My taste is usually pretty close to his (though I love Succession and he hates it). He compared Episode 6 of Watchmen to "Walkabout" and "International Assassin" which are two of my favorite episodes of TV. So that is encouraging.

I'm okay with this, but I have doubts it's really the plan. Since there's no Game of Thrones I think HBO is looking for their next big hit series, hence you have this and His Dark Materials along with more futuristic looking version of Westworld. I would wager HBO is throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what will stick before committing millions to several seasons of anything. If Watchmen brings in GoT numbers, then I wouldn't be surprised to see two more seasons ordered.

Q: will we be having a weekly thread to discuss the series or will this one be the place?

Since the first season seems to be based in Oklahoma, they might do something where future seasons might take place somewhere else. Season two might be in New York, season three might be in Moscow, season four might be San Franciso, season five might be in Berlin, etc. They could also jump around the timeline, and set the New York season in 1989, the SF season in 2000, the Moscow season in 1991, etc.
