The Amazing Race (S27E01) -- "A Little Too Much Beefcake" -- 9/25/15

ELEVEN NEW TEAMS TAKE OFF ON THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME FROM VENICE BEACH, CALIF. AND HEAD TO RIO DE JANEIRO, ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF "THE AMAZING RACE," FRIDAY, SEPT. 25
"A Little Too Much Beefcake" (Rio de Janeiro)
- Eleven new teams take off on the journey of a lifetime from Venice Beach, Calif. and head for Rio de Janeiro, where teams take a thrilling helicopter ride and face a huge decision at the Fast Forward, on the season premiere of THE AMAZING RACE, Friday, Sept. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Phil Keoghan (@PhilKeoghan)
is the host.
Following are the 11 teams competing on the new season of THE AMAZING RACE:
Ernest Phillips and Jin Lao, Brothers from Boston
Denise Williams and James Earl Corley, Mother and Son from Prattville, Ala.
Cindy and Rick Chac, Newlyweds from San Diego, Calif.
Alex Manard and Adam Dingeman, Cousins from Champaign, Ill. and Des Moines, Iowa, respectively
Justin Scheman and Diana Bishop, Engaged Couple from Philadelphia
Jazmine Lewis and Danielle Littleton, Athletes from Los Angeles
Tanner Kloven and Josh Ahern, Best Friends from Dallas
Kelly Berning and Shevonne Sullivan, TMZ Editor and Post Production Supervisor, respectively, from Los Angeles
Kelsey Gerckens and Joey Buttitta, Dating News Anchors from Santa Barbara, Calif.
Logan Fazio and Chris Gordon, Dating Paparazzi from Miami Beach, Fla.
Tiffany Chantell Torres and Krista DeBono, Friends from Hoboken New Jersey and Staten Island, NY, respectively
THE AMAZING RACE sends 11 teams on a trek around the world. Each team is comprised of two people who have a pre-existing relationship with one another. At every destination, the teams compete in a series of challenges - some mental and some physical - and when the tasks have been completed, they learn their next destination. Teams who are farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning at least $1 million.

Was that Vanessa from Big Brother crying all the time under the green hat?

Top three bikini moments from the episode:
#3: Jazmine and Danielle on the beach.
#2: Greeter chick at the pit stop.
#1: Cindy trying to figure out the puzzle. Wow. Just...wow. She uncovers nicely.

Is that a new Express Pass rule -- you have to hand it off after 4 legs if you don't use it?
If that's the case, then stupid to go for it with a questionable out-of-your-hands FF.
I wish they would get rid of the Express Pass and go back to classic having a FF on every leg. But they're too cheap for that.

But you're probably right.

I thought it was foolish to go for the first flight. The risk/reward on that just wasn't worth it. There are times later in the game where it can be worth it, but not to isolate yourself from all 10 other teams.

OK. Still, I don't see as much incentive to get it if you can't use it later stages of the race. Weighed against the risk in this episode, didn't make sense to go for it.

Team God's Gift to Women are going to be absolutely insufferable this year, aren't they.
Very glad that Team Green made it through. It really sucks to see teams get eliminated due to freak bad luck ... and that happening first leg would've been a bummer.
I sure didn't expect the cousins to go for the volleyball challenge. And then the Boston brothers watching in shock as the cousins moved past them on the challenge

Was rooting for Team TMZ. Need to watch Mon's episode of that show to see if the staff gives them any reaction now that it's aired.

It's the first leg, 11 teams, and you're in the lead. No reason to take any extra risk, even with the Express Pass in play. I would've just kept going through the Detour.

I guess I'll root for the dentist and doctor (wife and husband). They didn't do anything impressive though.
None of the teams really stood out for me. But the Brazilian pit stop girl was amazing.
I would love to go to Rio one day was well.

That Christ the Redeemer question was about the easiest thing they could've asked. It's the only thing a lot of people know about Rio.

Oh man. I'm upset that TMZ went home first. Their commentary through the thing would've been hilarious. And was it just me or was that a very awkwardly paced episode?

Would have been concerned had the TMZ team made it past the first leg. Had no interest in hearing them talk during another leg of the race.
The girl at the mat was Amazing. You know the scored a great one when so many teams make mention of it.

I'm sort of baffled at what the TMZ team was doing with that puzzle. When they showed a clear shot of the whole board, I paused it. They were not even close to anything resembling the actual pattern, to the point where I think they didn't even understand what the puzzle was supposed to look like (even though the completed puzzle was clear in view a table away). It's one thing to get stuck on the puzzle, but they had absolutely nothing EVERY time it showed their puzzle.

They use it on Survivor a lot, but I think it's more interesting when it's a message or a distinct object rather than an abstract pattern.

I'm happy the TMZ team went home, so I am biased though.
