"Pilot" - As the Short family's lives unfold in four brief stories each week, they try to savor the moments that add up to what life's all about, on the series premiere of LIFE IN PIECES, Monday, Sept. 21 (8:31-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
LIFE IN PIECES is a single-camera comedy about one big happy family and their sometimes awkward, often hilarious and ultimately beautiful milestone moments as told by its various members. Of the three siblings, middle child Matt may have just found his true love, his co-worker, Colleen; his coddled youngest brother, Greg, and his wife, Jen, are overwhelmed by the birth of their first child; and the eldest, Heather, and her husband, Tim, are dreading their impending empty nest so much, they're considering having another baby. Their parents are Joan, the family's adoring matriarch who would do anything for her kids - as long as she agrees with it - and John, the gregarious patriarch who's searching for ways to soften the blow of turning 70. As the family's lives unfold in four short stories each week, they try to savor these little pieces of time that flash by but stay with you forever, because these moments add up to what life's all about.

The funny thing is if you were going to ape Modern Family, you'd think you'd have done it when that show was still super popular. I feel that its popularity has waned (at least for me).

This was pretty meh. Good cast, so I will give it another episode, but I don't see adding this to my regular watch list.

Most of it was covered in the previews I'd already seen, so I'll need another episode to make a real judgement.

I liked it. Yes, there are Modern Family similarities, but the overall tone felt different. This was like a sampler platter of different sitcoms with a crossover element. None of the characters annoyed me and for the most part the situations presented were fun.
The only segment that fell flat for me was the funeral... it just felt forced and over-the-top in a way the other segments didn't. And it was the one spot where I felt like they were directly trying to ape Modern Family style antics.

I enjoyed it overall. First date bit was kind of creepy. I didnt really find it funny. Baby bit I thought was the highlight of the show. Zoe Lister-Jones and Colin Hanks worked well together, and had a few laugh out loud moments, even though you could see them coming from a mile away. College trip was funny, do to it being uncomfortable. They could ahve ramped the uncomfortableness up a bit, I thought though. Funeral bit fell completely flat for me.

I watched it because I had a half hour to kill until the next show. Didn't find any of it funny. I give it 3 or 4 episodes shows until it is pulled. But I wont be watching any more of them.

I have given birth to two children and I was completely confused by the frozen glove thing. What exactly is that supposed to do?

I hated this show. None of it was funny and the acting was surprisingly bad all around. I'm sure it will be [Trump]Yuuge[/Trump] because of the lead-in, though. I won't be watching any more.

I'm gonna go with dull the residual aching that's probably still down there. Now I don't know how you're supposed to get something that size in, especially when you want the area to contract but...............

That's what confused me about it - I remember being told not to even use tampons for the first 6 weeks. And it was weird how the show acted like that was some common thing that everyone should know. Odd writing.

And she laughed constantly throughout the whole thing.
I want to ban her from watching it just because of the whole vagina segment.

I don't think there's another thread for this show but anyone still watching? I've been going through episodes on my dvr and have been enjoying it more than modern family. Even the four story premise has grown on me somewhat.

Re: Life In Pieces (CBS) -- Series Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15
Anyone still watching???? We had a ton of episodes going back to early in season 1 and for some reason decided to start watching them. We have watched about 20 episodes this week and are close to getting completely caught up.
The show has really improved in our opinion and we are really loving it. It is pretty impressive that they are able to continue to pull of the "4 stories" format. Very few "duds" in the mix.
I know this has been compared to Modern Family- I know we will probably be in the vast minority but we are enjoying this much more than Modern Family right now.

I'm still watching, but there's not really a lot to talk about each week. I agree that it is more consistently funny than Modern Family now.

Whoever did the casting on this show did a fantastic job. There isn't a single character on this show who we don't love- not easy with such a large cast...
