Watched this past Monday's show last night. Nice Hayley-centric episode. Nothing spectacular but a nice change of pace.
Obviously Stana makes some big bucks but while watching I couldn't help but think that for a 13 episode season, they could easily get away with no Martha, Alexis and Hayley and not miss a beat. At some point they'll need an M.E. even if it's not Lanie. She can't be making that huge a salary.

Re: Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15
I'm pumped for a season without Becket - her character has been shit for at least 2 seasons. Last nights episode was very Becket-lite and I loved seeing Jonathan Silverman playing a guy who couldn't be killed! Very funny and the girl he liked was named Gwen, nice Weekend at Bernie's shoutouts. As long as Fillion is on the show, I'm sticking with it - would much rather have a light hearted hour of just Castle solving crimes - the serious episodes of Castle always feel forced and cookie cutter, whereas the humor is the reason I tune in.

Last night's episode was good. Even though the series isn't what it was in it's Seasons 1-5 peak it's still a good, entertaining hour of TV.
I like that it was a murder mystery where the murder victim wasn't really killed. It was a fun twist.

It just started getting to where it felt like a chore to get through. I would get multiple episodes piled up on the DVR and not feel motivated to watch. I've been trying to reduce the number of shows I follow, and a procedural that I think has lost some of its luster was a prime candidate.
The show is not terrible or anything. It just quit being enjoyable or something I looked forward to watching. I was following it out of habit or obligation because, like you, I have always been the type to watch a show to the bitter end. At this point, there's too many other things to watch; if I'm not invested, I'm not wasting my time anymore.

I did like the addition of Jackie Joyner Kersee to the cast this season.

The looks on Laney's face when the victim woke up was pretty priceless.

This episode did have some fun aspects, but it's weird when the two leads of a romantic/comedy/drama have the first few minutes together then basically ignore each other for the rest of the show. Will definitely bail after this season if it continues. This season has been a chore.

Was surprised to read in this morning's paper that Castle won the "save this bubble show" in the USA Today at 56%. Apparently we on this board are a minority. The show has been on fumes for a while and these without Beckett have been of questionable quality.
Good news, next season Castle gets on skis and jumps over a shark. Oh wait, that's been done.

Nathan Fillion has signed on for a potential 9th season.
ABC has until the end of the day Friday to renew or make the season finale the series finale. They have 2 endings shot.

I wonder if they'll pull a Person of Interest and just have a shortened ninth season.

Just give us the spinoff with Javy and Ryan, with occasional Castle appearances.

ABC pushed the deadline. No decision yet.
Apparently Deaver and Huertas signed on for the potential 9th season as well.

Have Castle & Beckett almost killed by Locksat, go to Europe or somewhere to convalesce, and focus on Javier and Ryan, and maybe a couple of others in the cast if they felt the need.

I would watch if they centered the show on Alexis dressed in that see-through angel costume she wore last year.

Saw last Monday's on the DVR last night. It's weird watching them trying to play a loving couple when they are together only a few minutes on the show and you know they really hate each other. Too bad if she's a bitch because she has a rockin ass.

Jon Huertas signed on for the potential 9th season.
So here's who is coming back as of right now:
Fillion
Dever
Huertas
And reportedly Molly Quinn and Susan Sullivan
Toks Olagundoye (Hayley) is also in talks.
I don't think ABC is cancelling if they are making the effort to sign these actors. ABC also promoted the finale as Season Finale, not Series.

Great news. ABC has decided to end Castle. Mondays episode will be the series finale. They will use wrap up ending.

I am glad. I have enjoyed the show over the years, but really didn't need to see it without Beckett. Let's just hope the wrap up ending is a good one.

I think it's funny how hyprocritical some of these Castle fans are. When they announced that Stana wouldn't be joining the potential 9th season, everyone lost their minds and said No Beckett, No Castle. And they wanted no part of a season 9 with no Beckett.
Now with today's announcement that it's ending, I'm now seeing people pissed and upset that it's ending.
I think 8 seasons was a terrific run for this show. It was definitely time to end it.
I'm curious why would ABC studios waste their time signing all the principal actors to new contracts for season 9.
The show is probably a season or 2 past it's prime, but I think a forced 9th season would have tarnished it's legacy.

I wish ABC had cancelled "Castle" last year and saved "Forever" instead.
