If they aren't going to have Stana Katic, I am all for ending it this season. Give us the closed ending and stop it.

I didn't start to watch until s3 or 4, then I binged all the early episodes on DVD so I believe I've seen every episode. Just not when they first aired. Still love those first couple seasons when the tension between them was another character in the show.

Even though this season's relationship has been bogus, the show is still better with her than without. It's far too late to kill her off and bring in another interest which makes this show another murder mystery with a sidekick with special observational powers or insight. Done to death. I like the character of Lanie but the show could survive without her. No Beckett no sale

While I would be all good with a spin-off featuring Ryan and Espo, they should not continue Castle without Beckett. I won't watch that (and I've watch every episode from the beginning).

I really hope Nathan Fillion bows out of these contract talks for a 9th season and tries to keep some integrity left with this show.

Trying to squeeze out 13 more episodes losing your co-lead and cutting budget just seems like a half assed way to do it and will be a huge slap in the face to long-time fans. Not too many people stick with shows 5 seasons let alone 8.

Shame that creator Andrew Marlowe left the show after season 6. If he stayed with the show, I think he would have given it a definitive end date and not played with this idea of dropping Stana.

I'm wondering if the rumors of her being difficult on set are true and that's why they are ditching her.

After following this show from episode one, I dropped it this season. I checked in here to gauge reaction after I heard about the casting news.

I can't believe they're dropping one of the leads! It just won't be the same show anymore. Even if I don't still watch, I still want the show to end well. I think it's time for the show to bow out.

Over the last few months, I've frequently questioned my decision to delete my season pass, but with this news, it makes me feel like I made the right decision.

Just curious, since you say you've followed since Episode 1, why did you drop it this season? If I've followed a show 7 years, I would follow it until the end.

It hasn't been a bad season. The chemistry and humor is still there. Only thing was Stana was MIA for a few episodes because she was shooting a movie when the season began filming.

Why is Stana Katic leaving? Its not like she has a career outside this show. Hope she likes maybe being invited to Dancing with the Stars (or has beens) in a few years.

OK, Castle without Beckett is almost pointless.

The show is ALL ABOUT their relationship. Take her away and you take away what the show is all about. It's ludicrous that they're even considering continuing without Beckett.

Screw that. I've been a huge fan of the show since the beginning (more or less), but if they do this I'm out.

Network and studio want to make 13 more episodes, but they also want to cut costs since the show is 8 years old and expensive now. They think cutting Stana and Tamala Jones will save some money.

It's not a lock to come back for season 9 though. Heavily contingent on them signing Nathan Fillion again, which he hasn't done yet.

Apparently the new guy in charge wants it to be just another procedural.

I hadn't read anything about friction between the two leads but it's not uncommon. Didn't Fillion and Katic hook up and then break up early on. I guess that could make working together tense if one didn't like the breakup.

Last night's episode was good. I like Hayley as a character. Adding her to the show has definitely made it better.

The show may not be what it was for the first 4 or 5 seasons, but it's still pretty good. They just need to shut it down after this season. No Beckett? No point in having the show. It's not like the show will get better without her. If ratings are down enough to warrant cutting costs then they're down enough to end it. Let the show go out with it's cast intact.

I remember reading articles when the show started to become popular about how they didn't get along, mostly because she was demeaning to the other actors and crew. Assuming this is what's been referenced in the articles.

Whatever the backstage drama, I hope the show doesn't continue. Castle without Beckett is like Butch without Sundance, Lucy without Ethel.

It just started getting to where it felt like a chore to get through. I would get multiple episodes piled up on the DVR and not feel motivated to watch. I've been trying to reduce the number of shows I follow, and a procedural that I think has lost some of its luster was a prime candidate.

The show is not terrible or anything. It just quit being enjoyable or something I looked forward to watching. I was following it out of habit or obligation because, like you, I have always been the type to watch a show to the bitter end. At this point, there's too many other things to watch; if I'm not invested, I'm not wasting my time anymore.

Fillion's statement certainly does make it seem like he's ready to move on without her. Personally, while I still enjoy his work, I think the show's been running on fumes for a few years now. I'd rather he just go get another gig.

This US Weekly story (take it with a grain of salt) alleges that Fillion was dick on the show and bullied Stana. It says a lot of people on the show don't like Fillion.

Weird that this is 1st we are hearing of him being a dick on set, but there have been several of her being a diva.
