This is boring, lame-assed shit.
They're focusing this on a dull, middle-class family that has a kid with a drug problem straight out of after school special. And, yeah, they're sitting around playing Monopoly like a bunch of yuppie assholes while the Mexicans are all getting shot in the streets.
I'll probably finish out the season on AMC, but I won't be buying the blu-ray.

I liked the episode but do agree they should have focused on a different family. I would rather see what is happening in the poor areas.

It seems like they're flopping between how serious the situation is to... fuck it, let's play board games kids!
It's as if they forgot that these are two "kids" that are straight up adults. The youngest being in her last year of HS. Is a game of Monopoly suppose to make her forget that her boyfriend is sick and she doesn't get any answers from her mother about a situation that is literally effecting their own front yard?
As if they haven't even tried turning on the tv or a radio to hear about anything. It could have been a good device to tell the story beyond this fake low income family on what is going on.
Nice that his truck parked in the middle of the road was one of the few not fucked with in this riot of over turning cars and setting fire to random buildings. Let's drive away slowly like if this was some demented version of Pirates of the Caribbean.

I also wondered how their truck was not on fire.
It seems that this would work better just showing different people. Skip around, what is going on here or there.

yeah, for expanding the world of the walking dead, this shit is sure limited the window of seeing how the world falls apart.

I'm curious to see how the military falls apart since the soldiers seemed to have a clue.
I also guess that dogs don't fear zombies. Predator animals are screwed since they'll attack a zombie and end up getting bitten.

The show should just be renamed TEASE THE WALKING DEAD
Shit like driving by the locked down hospital while zombies trickle out, or zombies getting into the mix of the street riot while they escape back to their perfectly fine truck. It's like, they give you a little hint of what this show could have been.
The concept of this show had some solid foundation to be really interesting and add something new to the whole walking dead mytho, but then somewhere in realizing that they used half their budget on craft services and now we have this.

i gave up. I would have hoped for a new person each week showing what is happening. None of these people are interesting to care

Was really hoping for the druggie son to get shot by the military guys, since he looks/walks like an 'infected.'
What a disappointment that they didn't get to leave. The scenes in the house are just claustrophobic. And what's with the neighbours having a maze in their yard?
I guess I should just face it, the Walking Dead shows will never be well written. I just hope they get a bit more entertaining than this.

This has turned into a watching this while doing the dishes on Monday morning show. I mean the valley girls in Night of the Comet figured out what was going on sooner than this family.

I really hate Turkish Gabriel Byrne. People are being shot multiple times without going down, he was just in the middle of a riot, his life was just saved by a shot gun, but he gets pissy about someone showing his son the proper use of gun because he doesn't like them in his pre-apoc world. He knows this outbreak is bad and contagious, but he allows an affected to hang out in his back yard.
I hope they lock the son in his room and let him detox like they did in trainspotting.

The think that gets me about this story so far is peoples ability to see what is happening but to not believe it. They can see that the neighbor is dead/not alive. Most people in that situation would realize that this is a fight or flight situation. Either leave or kill. There is no reasoning with whatever these things have become. Yet the man thinks that everything will just work out and settle back into normal. How many times does a person have to encounter one of the walkers before they learn? I guess in LA, 20 or 30 times minimum. Huge learning curve on the west coast.

Yeah I'm actually okay with the way this is turning out. No one knows what the hell is truly happening.

Everybody except the junkie kid and the hispanic dad is in serious denial about what's happening right in front of them, and the dad is a grade A jerk. That, and he's going to get people killed when mom dies from the broken leg.

So they don't have any battery powered radios to maybe hear what's going on in the world?

The only part of the episode I liked was the two neighbors casually rolling their trash cans to the curb and giving each other a nod as if to acknowledge that yes, there are body parts and such in the recycling this week.
Salvadoran dude has some potential as I'm assuming he saw some serious shit back in the old country and is better prepared mentally for what is about to happen. Of course the show's creators could just as well kill him off for daring to use the wrong Monopoly piece.
