Re: Untitled Mayans Project (FX) -- Sons of Anarchy spinoff in development
Old news and ridiculous idea. Who the hell wants to watch a show about the Mayans?
Why not a show about the First 9?

Officially has a title. Now called "Mayans MC"
Believe it or not, Kurt Sutter is not writing it. Indie Filmmaker Elgin James is.

So that article says:
But nothing about the paragraph later describing James resembles that (although it's still fascinating):
“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice,” New Jersey-born Sutter said. “Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”
James’ bio reads like the story of a SOA character. Homeless as a teenager, he was a fixture in Boston’s hardcore punk scene, helping found a multi-ethnic national street gang that targeted neo-Nazi skinheads and drug dealers. After spending a decade and a half in the gang, James left Boston for Los Angeles where he entered the Sundance Institute Feature Film program. James’ directorial debut, Little Birds, starring Juno Temple & Leslie Mann, premiered in competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. A few months later James began serving a prison sentence for a past gang-related charge of federal extortion. Little Birds was released in 2012 by Millennium Entertainment and the film won a National Board of Review award. On the film side, James is slated to direct A Million Little Pieces for John Wells and Plan B Entertainment, and is developing a film on the troubled life of actress Jean Seberg for Electric City entertainment, adapted from the biography Breathless.

re: Mayans MC (Sons of Anarchy spinoff) ordered to series
The “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff is one step closer to becoming reality.
FX has ordered a pilot of “Mayans MC,” based on the network’s hit Charlie Hunnam-led motorcycle gang drama series.
Kurt Sutter, who created the original show, co-wrote the pilot for the spinoff with Elgin James, and will also direct it.
“Mayans MC” is described as being set in a post Jax Teller (Hunnam) world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.
Sutter has a long history with FX. He wrote for and eventually executive produced the gritty Michael Chiklis-led police drama “The Shield,” which ran for seven seasons, and he went on to create “Sons of Anarchy,” the wildly popular outlaw biker drama that also lasted seven seasons. It was the highest-rated drama series in FX Networks’ history when it went off the air in December 2014.
Sutter also created the short-lived series “The Bastard Executioner.” That series followed a medieval knight who has sworn off violence but is drawn back into bloody conflict. Sutter announced he was cancelling the series in November after a lukewarm critical reception and so-so ratings.

It's been too long from the original series to have some momentum, they will need to cast it well and market it like crazy.
Just reading that article and not being able to remember how the original show ended told me as much... and now I remember the motorcycle Jesus pose... this will blow with Sutter being totally involved.

They need to get a relatively big name Hispanic actor to be one of the leads. Someone like a Edward James Olmos. Although he might be way too old now to work on a show like this.
Jimmy Smits character Nero is still alive in the SOA world. He would be a good pick to be the lead.

re: Mayans MC (Sons of Anarchy spinoff) ordered to series
Yes Sutter made a lot of dubious storyline choices with SOA and we know the nepotism issue with Katey Sagal
But he did give us the series and the Shield
I think he's learning not to stray too far from his comfort zone which is basically cops and robbers shows
I'm definitely in for this Mayans spinoff, obviously it leaves things open for cameos by any survivors from SOA for which there were more than i expected
Whenever they need a ratings boost, they can bring out Happy or Chibs etc
I'd actually love to see the Sorbell storyline finished off

He didn't give us the shield. He was only a writer on that show.

re: Mayans MC (Sons of Anarchy spinoff) ordered to series
Fool me once Sutter with SOA....but one or two shows of the Bastard Executioner sealed the deal for me.
He's a legend in his own mind, there is no way this show doesn't go completely off the rails with ridiculous cameos for his buddies, pure shock value scenes, montages run amok and real "subtle" symbolism.
