Yvonne Craig dead at 78
(CNN)—Yvonne Craig, best known for her role as Batgirl on the 1960s "Batman" TV series, has died. She was 78.
The actress and dancer had been battling breast cancer for two years, her family said in a statement posted on her website. The cancer metastasized to her liver and she died Monday.
"She had been in chemo almost continuously for the past two plus years since being diagnosed and that had weakened her immune system as well as her body," the statement said.
"This didn't dampen her sense of humor or her spirit, she intended to fight and win this battle. In the end, her mind still wanted to fight but her body had given up."
Craig portrayed Batgirl in the show's third and final season, bringing a female touch to the proceedings, alongside Adam West and Burt Ward's dynamic duo.
She also had a memorable role as the green-skinned "Marta" on "Star Trek" in its third season.
Early in her career she appeared in several episodes of "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis."

Grew up watching Batman, and I honestly think watching Yvonne Craig in that role is the reason I like redheads and why my favorite color is purple. RIP

The digital sub-channel, Me TV, has scheduled two special Batman episodes, highlighting Craig, this Saturday (Aug 22) at 7pm ET. This is from their website; don't know if these are the episodes or they will change by airtime.
"Louie the Lilac"
Louie the Lilac [Milton Berle] has cornered the flower market in Gotham City, hoping to gain control over the entire "flower generation." He kidnaps the organizer of their planned flower-in, Princess Primrose, and brainwashes her with his Stupefying Aromatic Spray. Batman and Robin follow a clue to the villain's lair only to be captured by Louie and fed to his giant man-eating lilacs. With the Caped Crusaders out of the way, Louie heads back to the flower-in to continue his evil plan. Alfred, meanwhile, has been alerted to Batman and Robin's situation, and goes looking for Batgirl.
"The Wail of the Siren"
While at the police headquarters, Loreli Circe, the Siren, [Joan Collins] the world-famous chanteuse who can sing in seven different octaves, gives Commissioner Gordon a dose of her hypnotic vocal prowess and puts him under her spell; she then orders him to stow away in the Batmobile's trunk, and, when it returns to the Batcave, immediately report back to her with information as to Batman's true identity.
EDIT: Some of you may not have seen Craig as Batgirl in a PSA for equal pay, with Burt Ward as Robin and Dick Gautier(?) as Batman.

Very sad news. She was one of my first crushes I had on a "girl" when I was just a kid. Along with Marsha Brady, they had my full attention anytime Batman or the Brady Bunch was on my TV.

I remember her being pretty hot as the Russian ballerina in IN LIKE FLINT (1967), although this pic doesn't do her justice:
