You do realize your in the season finale thread with a bunch of spoilers on how it ended?

It was a disappointing season. I predict the DVDs and BDs won't be flying off the shelves. No one who's seen this season week to week will be picking this up. It has zero re-watchability.

Wouldn't Frank have died out there in the middle of nowhere with no water or food or shelter anyway? I think he was doomed either way, but at least after getting stabbed it was less time chatting with previously-unseen and unmentioned black teenage bullies.

Those cascading betrayals!

Jesus fuck this had some poorly written lines. They should just let Kurt Sutter do the next season. I'd actually have more confidence he could come up with 8 episodes of something more entertaining at least.

Glad it's over. Fingers crossed that there's a new season with a new writer.

HBO conducted a Q&A with Pizzolatto last night.

He only answered 10 questions. I see they stayed away from asking him really difficult questions.

Then it wouldn't be True Detective. Might as well wish for a new show to fill the time slot.

Good point. So let it be written, so let it be done. Instead of dragging this on for a few more hapless seasons I'd much rather have HBO put the time and money into something else. Given HBO's track record over the years I'd guess something new would more likely than not be better...much better.

Episodes of True Detective gets over 12M views through live, re-airs, on demand, HBO Go, HBO Now through the week. That's the type of viewing platform that HBO cares about, not traditional Nielsen ratings. it's only year 2 of this show.

Yes, the show needs some serious revamping and work on it's writing, but HBO isn't going to outright cancel it with that kind of viewership even though season 2 was disliked by many. I mean they claim they will do another season if Nic Pizzolatto wants to, but they could also hire a different writer/showrunner to take over as well.

Yeah, they're mostly variations of :

Q: Hey Nic, why are you such a genius? How did you make such a perfect masterpiece?

A: Thank you. Yes being a genius isn't easy, it's both a blessing and a curse. I set out to make a work of art that future generations will look to the way we look at Shakespeare, Cervantes, The Bible. I'm glad I was able to create something that I'm so very proud of.

Q&A sessions are usually lame anyways. There's always some mouth breather asking "where do you get your ideas from.?"

Well, at least HBO subscribers will be getting season 2 of The Leftovers soon, so there won't be anything to complain about anymore.

Not sure how far out in the desert he was. I thought they were heading out without putting him in the grave, i.e., they changed their minds until Frank assaulted that one puta.

The black teenagers, (and the other specters), were all formative characters in the life of Frank: abusive father, taunting street toughs (in vintage 90s garb), the first associate he ordered killed, and his wife.

I found the plot difficult to follow and the characters that I wanted to love/like are immoral or too Irrational.

Jordan to Frank: "You can't act for shit."

My favorite line of the season. I think I would have enjoyed this much more had Vince Vaughn not been cast as Frank. Probably the worst bit of casting since Michael Rapaport on Justified.

I really liked this season probably more so than season 1. I also loved The Leftovers.

It's called skimming

But that's disappointing to hear. I see a lot of hate on the guy behind the show. What about Vince and Colin, though?

Farrell was great. Vince, not so much. In his defense he didn't have much to work.

While the season wasn't very good, I would recommend watching it. I feel it will come off much better if it were binge watched.

Oh god, I didn't even think about how much of that awful lounge singer one would have to endure if they binged watched this.. ugh

I think Farrell worked with what he got, but there's no escaping half the shit Nic wrote for his character to say that just begged for some proper season 1 reaction;

Yep, it hasn't been a huge drop off in platform ratings (11.9m for S1, 11.3m for S2), it just doesn't have the buzz of S1 which is something HBO uses to judge the success of their programs (goal: keep current subscribers happy while attracting new ones).

A lot of people hated Season 2 and yet the show still did decent numbers. Looks like people in these TD threads aren't the only ones who sat through the season in the hopes it would get better and still chose to stick it out for closure/curiosity because it was only a few more hours to endure.

Still a little confused? This might help clear up some plot details:

It would be pretty amazing if it became apparent they had the guts to troll a fan base like that by using an entire season as a red herring. That would be some real Kevin Finnerty stuff right there.

Did we ever get an explanations for Woodrugh's scars? I remember at the beginning of the season he told his girlfriend that he got them before the war. I was expecting to have that detail revisited later on.
