Is it just me or did Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams' apartments look the same? For a second I thought he must have been the boyfriend at the beginning and that she was wearing a wig and role-playing in the second scene.

I thought most women didn't like role-playing as Taylor Kitsch.

I'm rooting for Colin. It was also cool to see Vince Vaughn in a darker role. It's been a while.

I think at this point Colin is the only one that I am not rooting for.

I didn't watch season 1. Just got HBO.

I'll be watching the whole season. Will get around to watching season 1 sometime.

Nick Cave cover of All the Gold in California at the end.

so is taylor kitsch's character gay? i know they made it seem like he was a veteran and had issues, but the whole viagra thing and suicide ideology sort of made me think he has underlying sexual issues.

His facial expression during the BJ was odd, so maybe.

I was wondering the same thing. Had to read a recap to figure out not.

Pretty decent premiere.

I enjoyed it. Said aloud, "Where the hell is this going??" about 45 minutes in.

From the Vox article: "The episode doesn't have story. It has backstory."

Either that or some PSTD. He had a huge burn scar covering like half his shoulder. He may have survived a bad crash or been burned in an accident or was a veteran, etc.

Re: True Detective (S2E01) -- Season Premiere - "The Western Book of the Dead” - 6/21

I watched awhile ago. I was mixed on it. There are too many storylines going on and the Rachel McAdams' character and her family seemed odd and out of place. The hippie father or the sister will be involved somehow. The hippie father might be a composite character of real life hippe commune or cult types who were later revealed to be corrupt.

I'm hoping tonight's episode is much better than the premier in which the dead crow was the most compelling character.

Just watched it and I thought it was fine, but I thought the bar scene toward the end between Vaughn and Farrell was hilarious. I could only think of the scene from Naked Gun 2½:

Glad I ignored all the "micro-critics" and belatedly made it to this party. Season 2 may the the most underrated series of the year. It's nearly as well-written as season one, and Farrell & Vaughn prove they still have major acting chops. The rest of the cast is awesome, too. In a year of great TV, it would be criminal not to include this series.

So can I safely skip this season? I went ahead and purchased season 1 for cheap.

It may be worth watching if only to witness the contrast from season 1. Having watched both, I have no plans to revisit season 2 (ever). I've revisited episodes from season 1 a few times.

I agree. I don't hate that I watched S2, but S1 was worth a purchase, to me.

Season 2 is as good as season one. Expectations were high and should have been tempered with the suckfest that season one ending was.

Season 2 is way better than what people make it out to be. It's just not nearly as good as season one. Still worth the watch.
