Re: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (premieres Sept. 8, 2015)

Only 3 years?

Why not a 5 year or 10 year extension or he wants to leave sometime in the future?

Stephen Colbert will continue to make CBS his TV home.

The host and executive producer of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert has signed a contract extension that will keep him at CBS for three more years. CBS president and CEO George Cheeks announced the extension Tuesday at the Banff World Media Festival.

The extension will keep Colbert at CBS through 2026; his current contract was set to expire at the end of the year.

“[Colbert] is happy — not so happy right now as they’re not working — but they’re really happy and it’s a really cohesive group that is firing on all cylinders, and Stephen is really enjoying himself,” Cheeks said. “We just extended [the contract] for another three years, and I was praying that was going to happen.”

The extension will take Colbert into his 11th year hosting The Late Show, which he took over from David Letterman in September 2015.

Maybe because he can re-up in 3 years for more money than being tied up for 5-10 years?

He's 60 years old, and has been doing a daily TV show for about 20 years. Even if he has no desire or plans to leave now, why not keep your options open.

His, Fallon's, and Kimmel's contracts will all be up in 2025/26.

Fallon's wife said she could not imagine him doing anything else and his whole life is centered on the Tonight Show.

Maybe Kimmel will leave?

Kimmel has all but come out and said that he would have stopped, but it would have meant putting all the people that work on the show out of their jobs just after coming back from the pandemic.

Recording set.

I saw somewhere that they are giving away the Letterman Marquee for the Sullivan theater in a contest.

I entered. Don't know where the hell I'd put a 20x8 ft. marquee, but the prize also includes a free trip to New York and a meet and greet with Dave, I'd be over the moon if I won for that alone. He's been an absolute hero of mine since I was a teenager in the 80s.

I did the no donate option and the email said I have 2500 entries but it looks like you need to donate $250 to get that. 🤔

If you win, you can take the elephant instead.

Me too, made me realize how much I missed him sitting behind a talk show desk. He was still great as always.

Fallon is off this week and a blown chance to take over the ratings.
