Food Network Star -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres June 7, 2015
I guess Alton is out.
There are traditional job interviews, which are surely daunting, and then there's Food Network Star: an 11-week journey that demands from its hopefuls not just a solid resume and a memorable first impression, but simply flawless culinary technique, a sparkly TV presence and the ability to hook an audience using little more than a camera lens. There's nothing quite like this at once grueling and transformative experience, which has been known to turn out best-of-the-business pros, including Guy Fieri, Jeff Mauro and Damaris Phillips. And beginning this June, two culinary legends, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis, will once again scour the county in hope of discovering star power.
That's right, fans. Food Network Star, Season 11 is set to kick off in Los Angeles this summer (Sunday, June 7 at 9|8c). And in true Hollywood style, the lights of potential stardom will be shining bright as 12 eager finalists arrive for their chance at the most-sought-after career in the culinary industry: Food Network host. Led by judge-mentors Bobby and Giada, these rivals must put their dreams on the line as they take a chance on their futures during an intensive three-month process. Like last year's competitors, finalists will face weekly Mentor and Star Challenges. But with Bobby and Giada at the helm alongside a host of rotating special-guest judges, including Duff Goldman, Sunny Anderson, Richard Blais and David Alan Grier, you can be sure that unprecedented tests and downright shocking twists will force these contestants to learn quickly that the role of Star isn't as simple as the hosts make it look.
Come August, there can be only one winner, but that doesn't mean the road to victory will be clear. For finalists previously stung by the pain of elimination, their hopes for triumph aren't wholly lost — that is, if they can survive Star Salvation. This Web-exclusive series on FoodNetwork.com is designed to find the one finalist who's worthy of joining the on-air contest, and who better to lead the hopefuls on their journey to potential redemption than no-nonsense Chopped judge Alex Guarnaschelli and Food Network Star, Season 7 winner Jeff Mauro? Over the course of six episodes, they'll mentor and guide the ousted rivals though a series of both culinary-centric and camera-focused tests before ultimately deciding who's ready to rejoin the Food Network Star competition.
Alex McCoy (Washington, D.C.)
Arnold Myint (Nashville)
Christina Fitzgerald (St. Louis)
Dominick Tesoriero (Staten Island, N.Y.)
Eddie Jackson (Houston)
Emilia Cirker (Reston, Va.)
Jay Ducote (Baton Rouge, La.)
Matthew Grunwald (Scottsdale, Ariz.)
Michelle Karam (Santa Barbara, Calif.)
Rosa Graziano (Los Angeles)
Rue Rusike (Brooklyn)
Sita Lewis (New York)

Of course, it'll be interesting to see if the winner actually becomes a "star " on the network. So far only two of the last four got a show on the air, -Justin and Lenny have booked gigs at live shows affiliated with FN, but they only showed Justin's failed pilot in a "death slot" , and Lenny hasn't had anything on the air that I'm aware of.

No viewpoint and bad food will kill you every time.
I don't have a lot of impression from the first episode, other than there are some attractive women, there's a Lenny clone, Tim Tebow is the villain, and some of these people have no business being on TV.
I do like the football player. Apparently he didn't have much of an NFL career but did fairly well on MasterChef a few years ago.

So I never heard about the Lenny stuff from last year. What a dipshit.
As for this year, meh. I do like the #hashtag guy in only that he's going to piss a ton of people off. I want him to stay on a while just to mix it up and cause drama.

All I could think of while watching Christina cook was how much of that super long black hair was going to end up in the food. At this point it's looking like a weak season as most of the contestants seem like retreads from previous seasons.

I'm trying to figure out where I've seen the #hashtag guy from before. He's definitely been on something else. But the ex football player was a Masterchef contestant? Huh. No one here stood out from me (except for hashtag) as someone I recognized as having seen on TV before. No Hell's Kitchen refugees this year?

I'm not sure if this is the guy (since I haven't watched it) but I caught the very end and saw a guy who was on a few episodes of Cutthroat Kitchen. Young kid, very mouthy. Not sure if that could be who you're talking about.

Thing is, I don't think the #hashtag concept had to be a trainwreck. Maybe if he'd said something like "I use the hashtag to connect with other foodies, and when we swap ideas back and forth, we make the recipes better." I don't know if that would help him in this competition, but at least it would've given some purpose to his idea.

Oh and Nikki Dinki is finally getting a show. Here is a little Food Network Star news as season 9 contestant Nikki Dinki now has a show on the Cooking Channel called Junk Food Flip. Bobby Deen will go along with Nikki Dinki where they seek out the country's guilty pleasure foods and try to recreate them in a healthier way.

Some of these people are just terrible contestants. Emelia is the most attractive, but she has no chance. Dom got a boost here, and he seems like a good cook and a nice guy, but he's still a fish out of water until he can do something on camera. Sandwich Guy #2 looks like Jim Carrey.
And yeah, good for Giada for changing her vote. The protocol is to sympathize with your competitions when they go down, not to give them a smug smirk.

My DVR cut out at the end right after they dropped the hammer. Please tell me that Matthew had some choice parting words and stormed out in a huff.

Nothing too exciting, considering what he has said in the stew room. It was like "Stab of the dagger. I'll still be successful in this business."
