I think that's Weiner's "Sopranos" ending right there... did he or didn't he do the Coke ad.
I'm gonna have to sit and think about this one for a bit. To be quite honest, all the Don stuff wasn't that interesting to me. Maybe I just need to read some reviews that explain a bunch of what I am sure went over my head.

After thinking about it for 10 seconds, I'm pretty sure it's a little of the former and a lot of the latter. Renewal cycle.

Poor Harry. Just a couple of lines, with him being an asshole at that. Not much of an exit for such a long-lasting character.

The only way I can accept that ending is ... Don's personal journey helped him find happiness which he returned to NY and used for the Coke ad.

Yep. Ambiguous enough to quell the people who can't suspend disbelief and will say, "Wait, the guy that did the Coke ad was really so-and-so, not Don Draper", but obvious enough to those of us who can live in the fictional universe enough to know what he meant.

Imagine if the end had been on the smile, and the Coke ad didn't play. Completely different destiny for Don.

I haven't watched season seven other than the last part of tonight's episode but to me the ending seemed alright but a bit underwhelming and not entirely what I expected. It seems like the Coke ad was his idea and he found happiness again. The thing is it seems like that theme was recycled throughout the show and he'd be happy for a while but secretly was hiding his true feelings and would eventually become unhappy again. Maybe this time is different for him though.

I had to look up who the "Holloway" was that Joan ended up partnering with. Nice touch. Two names makes people take you seriously.

No doubt for me that Don did the Coke commercial. And if he does slip back into bad habits, as they said tonight, he is a survivor. Or maybe he is finally at peace.
Good ending for Peggy too. I would like to think her and Joan are successful together.
And that 'birdie' line

Sure, he found temporary happiness, but this could of easily been a season finale and we would be right back where we started next season..

Ah. I thought she was at least working on scripts at the typewriter.

As soon as Peggy mentioned he could work on Coke I knew we would be finishing with that and not the DB Cooper theories. The Coke theory has been around this past year or so as well.
It certainly makes you look at that ad differently, at least in the show's canon, as it came from a man who was lost and had to find happiness, as opposed to some greedy execs. I'm sure Coke loved it tonight.
