Mad Men (S7E14) -- Series Finale -- "Person to Person" -- 5/17/15
The stories of Don Draper, his family and his co-workers at Sterling Cooper & Partners conclude.
Written & Directed by Matthew Weiner
FYI, the finale runs 77 minutes
I wanted to look back and see how Mad Men was received back in 2007, but I could not locate a single thread from season 1. I didn't get into Mad Men until the 3rd season, so I don't know if the show was discussed at all 8 years ago or if the thread titles were just a mess.

I can almost guarantee we'll see all the main characters tonight, in some capacity.

I suspect it will be an anti-climactic ending.
Don will officially leave McCann and will find the path that will eventually lead him to whatever he's looking for - we just won't see him find it in the finale.
I don't think we've seen the last of Peggy.

Really REALLY SAD that in less than 24 hours there will be no more new Mad Men episodes. We will never hear another new word uttered from any of these great characters ever again! No more great Roger quips, Pete tantrums, Joan struts, Peggy-O movie theater anonymous hand-jobs, or Don benders nailing the stewardess, hangover-malaise (rinse, repeat). This truly is the end of an era.

I have been saying that they need to show what happens to other characters. That "we" need some closing.
I just thought, what if we have 77 minutes, commercials included, that are all about Don?
Yes, if that was Peggy's last scene I'm fine with that. I've seen several women that put that picture as their profile, in Facebook, Twitter, etc. You know, the one with Peggy with sunglasses, smoking, etc.
Same with the other characters. We don't need to see Betty dying. Or a funeral. Sally? she's a secondary character, she will appear to support Don.
It can be a full episode of Don, with a lot of strange, unknown, people. He becomes D.B. Cooper, he jumps from a building , whatever. Yes, some old timers will show up, but just for brief moments.
I think that would be great. And Mad Men is the kind of show that can do that.
But we will see, if they decided to go a more traditional route.

Re: Mad Men (S7E14) -- Series Finale -- "Person to Person" -- 5/17/15
I was guessing they were going to use this song in the finale, it was just a perfect fit for the series(like "Baby Blue" was for Breaking Bad), given that the single biggest "pitch" in the series was for Kodak, not to mention the early 70s timeframe. But they used it in the trailer, which seems a little odd, given that those songs usually cost a fortune! Maybe it will still be in the finale

Also, I wonder what the "Person to Person" is in reference to--my initial thought was that it was the term that was used for a collect call, where you they wouldn't connect the call unless the specific person you were calling answered it--maybe Don runs out of money on his bus trip ha.

Curious to see how it ends but I'll be waiting to watch it. I lost interest around season six but I plan to go back to it eventually.

I do hope to see one more Peggy and Don moment though. Maybe after a hour of watching Don do some soul searching it'll end with Don giving Peggy some backhanded life advice before quitting advertising.

No, for some reason it just lost something to me around season six and I was never able to truly get back into it. I liked the first five seasons a lot but I may have enjoyed the series more at first do because I binged the first four leading up to the season five premiere. I watched season five live but six didn't come back as strong and I felt never recovered.

I have a bad feeling that we're going to be disappointed by the finale. Hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't have a problem with Peggy's last scene actually being her last scene - but only if it were in the final episode. I think she's too important a character to send off 2 episodes before the series finale. Like I said in other threads, Peggy and Don are the anchors of the show.
I don't mind if Don dominates the finale, but I hope we see some of the other major characters as well. I was never a fan of episodes that revolves entirely around only 1 character - especially if it's a series finale.
Really looking forward to this... and I'm dreading it at the same time.
I don't think I'll be disappointed... mainly because I don't except anything major thing to happen. I think play out like the typical Mad Men episode and end gracefully.

I think it's Don, Peggy and Pete that are the anchors of the show. I that final scene at the burger place in the first half of the season. I thought that would've been a great closing shot for the finale.

I would've agreed about Pete being an anchor in the past, but his role seems to have been considerably reduced the last couple seasons - especially S7.
Yes, I remember that episode thread and many of us felt the same way. I think that scene is a good indicator of the type of feel we'll get for the actual series finale.

I know I should know this, but can someone briefly explain who that girl is again and briefly what that conversation was about?
