Re: Commercials you absolutely f&*$ing HATE
I would like to nominate the Peloton thread for TOTY award but its part of a longer thread and thus not eligible. Would a mod be willing to split the first post of the Peloton off from the Commercial thread so I can add it to the award running? not sure it has the legs to compete but this seems to have potential for Red dress / blue dress, plane on a treadmill status....

As for commercials I hate, there is one airing here in the OC for Orange County BMW dealers where a bunch of volleyball players stop and stare slackjawed at a Beemer, with a black dude so in awe the ball bounces off his head and he doesn't react. I'm amazed no one has called this racist yet. But it is farking stupid as hell.

at the "outrage" over the Peloton commercial. Think I saw it for a month on ESPN and never thought twice about it. Could have been worse - started with her fat and then hot.
Amazing what people get worked up about.

I didn't think anything of it, either. Was actually surprised there was all this "outrage" over it. Then again, we've been shown time and again the internet will bitch about anything.

Peloton was already on the hit list for their dumb ass commercials before. This just gave everyone the ammunition to fire away.
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it (sexist or bodyshaming, etc) it's just plain dumb. Who the fuck is nervous about riding an exercise bike and worried they can't make their year long journey and gets emotional about it?* Also the going from hot chick to hot chick that lost 3 pounds is pretty damn funny. They should have tracked a real person for a year losing a real 10-20 pounds.
*I guess maybe someone who's nervous about a $2-3,000 purchase becoming a laundry rack after two months?

But the commercials apparently work on carbon blobs.

Monica Ruiz, the actress who starred in a Peloton ad that drew mockery on social media, visits TODAY to respond to the controversy, saying she reluctantly decided to appear “when it didn’t blow over.” Ruiz also appeared in an ad for Ryan Reynolds’ gin that made fun of the Peloton ad – and she’s surprised when the actor joins her live on air! NBC News’ parent company Comcast is an investor in Peloton.

I bet Peleton paid her more to do that appearance. Their stock has plummeted like no other I've seen in recent memory. 10's of billions of worth have vanished.

Not to turn this into a Peloton thread, and I realize this happens in a lot of industries, but man this is something else:

“It was interesting psychology that we teased out,” Peloton CEO John Foley recalled in an interview last year with Yahoo Finance. “In the very, very early days, we charged $1,200 for the Peloton bike for the first couple of months. And what turned out happening is we heard from customers that the bike must be poorly built if you’re charging $1,200 for it. We charged $2,000 dollars for it, and sales increased, because people said, ‘Oh, it must be a quality bike.’”

I still don't see why everyone's so worked up over that Peloton add. Jeez, it's like they've never seen a commercial before.

I see it was requested to break this Peloton talk into an individual thread. Is the consensus that it should be and move to Otter? Or will this just be dead in a few days...

I would like to put my vote on adding Monica Ruiz from the Peloton ad to be added to the hot TV commercial girls and hot girls on TV thread. This woman is gorgeous

Time of the year for me to keep seeing and hating all the obscure ads for women's perfume. Do women still wear perfume? My wife would look at me like I was crazy if I ever bought her a bottle for the holidays.
