We need a new thread where you book readers can talk freely about the show & the book.

I haven't been posting in the threads for that reason. I would like to discuss the book/show differences, but I don't feel like these threads should be the place for that.

i find i can handle a default page's worth of responses/reactions after the airing until i have to bail on the thread due to inevitable potential spoiler talk.

There is a thread for spoilers, and there is a thread for the books. I don't get why people can't get it through their heads that these episode threads in the TV Talk forum are only for the TV show and what has happened on the TV show. Otherwise they would be posted in the book forum. And this is from a book reader.

She signed a new contract.

Unless Martin gets moving. Which doesn't seem likely.

Then there's my particular problem where I've watched the 4 released episodes so I don't want to post as I may have seen something in Ep 3 or 4 thinking it was in 1 or 2. Let's just say 3 and 4 are very good, IMO.

It really matters less and less. I don't consider differences between the book and the show for events that have already happened in both to be "spoilers". Also, there's simply less left that the books have covered that the show hasn't gotten to yet. Regardless even if the show hasn't yet caught up, the diveregence from the books has been enough that it's not clear that a book spoiler would be a show spoiler.

I'd rather have a thread where we can all speculate about what's going to happen without people feeling like book readers are spoiling stuff. For example, I have very strong feelings about where the Dany story line is going. My theories go far beyond what's in the books and I'd love to have a debate about them. My theories would also directly address some of what people are debating in this thread. However because aspects of my thoughts are informed by a small number of events that have occured in the books but not in the show (yet), I can't talk about them here.

So first you posit that a separate thread isn't necessary then you prove that one still could be.

Has anyone read from Dan & David just how much they've seen of Martin's plans for the series? I know that they were aware of his (planned) ending, fates of characters, etc. before they began the show, but have they said just how much detail they know?

For instance, have they just seen timelines, skeleton outlines, random notes on characters? Or do they have detailed synopses of what he has (had) planned for the final books?

Just curious to know whether they're still following a rough version of Martin's vision or are just going to plow on ahead & forge a more-or-less entirely original path to the end. And how much of the Winter book is completed? Have they had access to the unedited draft that covers most of the plot?

Just before pre-production began on season 4 they visited GRRM at his Santa Fe ranch and had him lay out his plans for every character and plot line in the series. They know very well what's going to happen and are using these plans for the show. We've probably all ready seen foreshadowing of certain elements in season 4, including the Night King turning Craster's baby, which was something that still hasn't been confirmed in the books.

Spoiler:
It was, and I thought it was very deus ex machina. In the books Drogon had not been seen for the entire story until that point, so he just came out of nowhere as something of a quick fix.

In all honesty, I think the whole book readers having a one-up on non-readers ended after last season. The series kind of started to deviate last year, but it's obviously going its own direction moreso this year. It's not that it will be unfaithful to the (now unwritten) books, it's just going to be what a good adaptation should, a truncated yet coherent version of the story.

Yeah, but there's still at least one doozy of a spoiler out there, the big cliffhanger for A Dance with Dragons. They've sort of been setting it up in these first two episodes, so we'll have to wait and see if they go there or not by the end of the season. Even with this season diverging from the books, I don't think that one should be discussed openly.

ETA: I am, of course, referring to
Spoiler:
"For the Watch."
Actually wouldn't surprise me if that's an episode title.

Yep, and that will be the one exception where it has to happen in the season finale , not the semi-finale. That will be the one twist to rule them all. ;)
