Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
Wow. Marvel going all out now
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/17/marvel-john-ridley Let the speculation begin: EW has learned that Oscar-winning writer-producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) is teaming up with Marvel to develop a mysterious new TV series. We hear the deal involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC—but all sides are staying quiet on exactly which title Ridley is adapting. This comes on the heels of EW breaking the news that Marvel and ABC are also developing a spinoff series to The Avengers tie-in Agents of SHIELD. Ridley is an executive producer of ABC’s acclaimed midseason drama American Crime, which we hear is looking good for a second season renewal. Coming off winning best adapted screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, Ridley is also a writer/producer on the 2016 big-screen update of Ben Hur. Marvel’s aggressive expansion into television now includes four current series (ABC’s SHIELD, Agent Carter—which is on the bubble for a pickup—and Netflix’s Daredevil), plus several confirmed upcoming titles (Netflix’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, followed by the Netflix character mash-up The Defenders). Neither Marvel nor ABC would comment on the Ridley project. |
Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
They might try and spin a "dark and gritty" hero with Daredevil doing so well and pull out Moonknight, or maybe peel a side character away from the film franchise like Falcon or Winder Soldier. But really, they are sort of at the bottom of the barrel with what they can use that's not already connected to another franchise.
Punisher is the only really big character they got left, and I doubt that'd go on ABC... Especially since DeKnight wants him on Netflix. |

He has some experience writing superhero team comics. Maybe show runner or EP on Defenders?

ABC? So it's going to be another watered down and completely lifeless network show like the still terrible AoS? No thank you.

^Sadly, this.

I hope it isn't Blade.

Is there an actual good show on Basic TV? |

I did initially like the second half of Arrow season 1 and all of season 2, but I recently went back to rewatch them on a binge. They do not hold up on a repeat viewing. I find a lot of network TV is like this. It's okay for one viewing, but that's it. Repeat watching isn't as enjoyable. (And I am a person who rewatches shows frequently on a binge, so that wasn't the problem.) |

Agreed. Network TV sucks. I have no interest in this show already.
Daredevil puts Arrow to shame. The CW shows are teen soap opera crap. |
Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
I don't think so, on Flash and Arrow being good. Flash is generic as hell in how it's characters act. It's just so cliche. Arrow was just as bad when I saw it. AoS is worse than both combined. They lack the backbone to do something actually imaginative and smart. I CRINGE like a motherfucker when they start spouting their shit TV humor and drama. And Iris West annoys the hell out of me. Just a generic girl in a show, wow. So awesome. The All Star episode in Flash just hammers in how generic it is.
It's highest point to me is seeing Reverse Flash. Like NONE of the villains have souls. It's just pandering crap to the masses. |

Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
For comic book shows? DD puts Flash, Arrow, and AoS to shame. Just cuz it's got balls to do something and actually have some damn fine people in front and behind the camera. It wins on having balls alone.
I don't worry about ANY of those characters in two CW shows and AoS. There's no real danger. Dialogue is chiche as fuck. The characters have no souls. The list goes on. In DD alone, we saw some shit that mattered. Characters that are important dying, a major villain that actually comes off as a real person, etc. Where's all that in Flash, AoS, and Arrow? It has nothing to do w/ tone. It's the brains in the operation that have nothing to show. Crap writing, direction, mediocre acting, and so much more. Network TV shows are just teen drama crap w/ flashy crap in it. |
Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
For Dramas? I'm not sure..I know some like the Good Wife.
We like New Girl & Last Man on Earth. Grimm is a fun diversion on Friday Nights. |
Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
If i had to guess, I'd say it is going to be a supernatural show of some sort. I think that will tie into the Dr. Strange world we'll be seeing with that movie.

Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
Breaking up all the Shield hate, I think Agents of Shield has been a good to great show, so i'm interested what kind of other characters they want to tackle on network TV.

Re: Marvel & John Ridley teaming up for super hero project
Very disappointed if this will be on ABC.
Barely watch anything on ABC/FOX/CBS/NBC anymore... and only occasionally on CW. |
