Billy Crystal to Headline FX's Comedians Pilot
Billy Crystal appears ready for a primetime comeback, signing on to star in a single-camera comedy pilot for FX.
Titled The Comedians, the potential series finds the nine-time Academy Awards host playing a superstar comedian who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comic for a late-night comedy sketch show.
The project, which counts Larry Charles (Seinfeld), Matt Nix (Burn Notice), Ben Wexler (Community) and Crystal as exec producers/writers, is based on a Swedish series of the same name.
Comedians would mark Crystal’s first full-time TV gig since his one-season stint on Saturday Night Live nearly three decades ago. Prior to that, he spent four years playing Jodie Dallas on the classic ’70s sitcom Soap.

Re: Billy Crystal to Headline FX's Comedians Pilot
I knew someone would make this joke as soon as I saw the thread title.
I was born in '81 so Billy Crystal has never really been in the business of making me laugh, and I've always been cool with that. I liked him in Monsters Inc. but I don't remember being all that impressed with him when they used to actually show reruns of non-Lorne SNL episodes in the early 90's.
Like many comedians he's talented but prone to hackery and not above selling out but with Larry Charles involved I think this could actually be pretty great.

Not only that, but I feel as though I've already watched the entire season based on the amount of promos I've seen.

I thought Josh Gad had a healthy movie career and too early to do a sitcom.
I thought he was in Scorpion too.

I will check it out. Anytime I hear Gad now, all I can think of is Olaf.

Those promos have been the only thing I dread when I watch The Americans. They're godawful.

For some reason I thought Louie started at 10, so I ended up watching this even though I wasn't really planning to. I really wish I hadn't. That was awful.

I'll give it a try, but the commercials are annoying and makes it look like crap.

Horrible show. Nothing funny. Generic title. Should have at least been something like Crystal Clear.
I don't know why he's considered a legendary comedian. He was okay on SNL and had a few okay films mostly due to the directors that made them.

If you don't get it I'm not sure how I could explain it to you. He is a legendary comedian based on his work in several different mediums, his popularity, and I guess to some degree his longevity.

I think he's an overrated comedian in Hollywood circles, which is a very insular place. He's a poor man's Woody Allen that stayed more accessible with his material. Crystal must be a great guy in person to deal with to continue getting so much work.

The part where Gad asked his agent if he could use the money saved from 1600 Penn Season 2 ( season 2 never aired) to pay for some expenses was hilarious.
There were some funny parts and I don't think it is that bad and probably better than any sitcom on ABC.

The 2nd episode was not that good but at least I hope this is the end of the director who had the sex change.
