I rewatched the series a couple years back and other than the special effects, it mostly held up.

Two more good nominees.

Need to go back & watch S:A&B but remember it fondly. Loved it when Johnny Cash's "I Walk The Line" was used on the soundtrack (hope it made the DVD).

And Grosse Pointe was priceless, IMO. The complete series used to be available at Big Lots for $3 (for years, it seems). If still available, money well spent.

Life
Keen Eddie
The Job
Wonderfalls
Pushing Daisies
Reaper
Almost Human

This would be my list. I should probably add Constantine since is sure to get canceled.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

The Unusuals
The Good Guys
Better Off Ted
Happy Endings (not that 3 seasons is too short - I just wanted more of what I thought was the sharpest ensemble comedy going)
The Norm Show
Andy Barker, P.I.
Running Wilde (I may be the only person on Earth who enjoyed it)
Studio 60

Plus the usual suspects of Arrested Development, Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, etc.

Ill add the HBO series Luck, wish they had found an acceptable way to do the horse racing

Also, Surface, it was campy and fun and never boring.

I actually enjoyed Running Wilde as well, it got better as it went, although it was the kind of thing where I wasn't too upset when it was over
Although that does make me think of anyone to add to the list: Sit Down, Shut Up.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

Aside from Better Off Ted and all the other mentions, would have liked to have seen more of:

Alphas
Breakout Kings
Flash Forward
Jericho
That 80s Show (the episode with the baggy pants and slippery furniture killed us ... )
The 4400

(And many others that I will remember as soon as I click Post ... )

I have all the toys put away somewhere. The show was WAY ahead of it's time. Too bad they caved at the media pressure to cancel it! Captain Power was like watching the future war from the Terminator movies. One of the lead writers went on to write over 90 episodes on Babylon 5.

On September 28, 2012, it was announced through Internet entertainment news Web site Ain't It Cool News that series creator Gary Goddard was in the process of reviving the series. The new series project, titled "Phoenix Rising," uses the original rising Phoenix symbol of the Captain Power franchise, though the motif has been slightly altered. The series would be a one-hour weekly drama, looking at both sides of the post-apocalyptic conflict, starting with the origins of characters, which were only touched upon half way through the first season. As of September 29, 2012, no networks or cable channels have been announced as being a part of the project, nor has any casting choices been revealed. On board with the project are writer/producers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens who have been tapped to develop the revival/reboot of the franchise.[28] Stephan Martinière is heading up the conceptual art for the show.
Keeping fingers crossed.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

I would have liked to see the 1991 Dark Shadows series go longer. It pretty much got killed by coverage of the first Iraq war.

Also Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and Alien Nation.

Am I really the first person to mention Stargate Universe? I know they got two seasons, but it was really hitting it's stride and could have turned into a real classic.

It did. After FOX cancelled it in 2002, IFC picked it up in 2005, although the show was reformatted:

I remember a 2006 AVClub article about 1-season wonders. I wrote an extensive comment to that article that apparently got deleted when they switched discussion platforms. You can still see some of the responses to my comment though:
http://www.avclub.com/article/invent...v-wonders-1625

AVClub also did a "The best one-season wonders of the ’00s" article in 2009, which I believe gave birth to the "what about Firefly?" meme on their boards (Firefly was on their "best of 00" article list):
http://www.avclub.com/article/the-be...-the-00s-35179

Last year they recommended some one-season wonders for President's Day:
http://www.avclub.com/article/so-wha...dents-d-201151

They also just recently started a recurring "One-Season Wonders, Weirdos, And Wannabes" column, each focusing on a specific show:

I sure don't remember it. But it reminded me of the show Super Force, about an astronaut that returns to earth and uses his spacesuit to fight crime.

It also jogged my memory about a show with a cop teaming up with an alien to fight crime, one that I always get confused with Mann & Machine. The pilot featured an alien that burrowed underground to attack its victims. After some searching, I found that the show is called Something Is Out There.

You can tell how uneventful The Event was by not having a mention here.

(this post being a dishonorable mention.)

Great show. The humor holds up well today.
Yep that's actually exactly what happened. Thankfully they solved it in a pretty easy way.

I wish I knew what the planned ending for ReBoot was. Or that The Pirates of Dark Water hadn't ended on cliffhanger. Or that SWAT Kats didn't get cancelled.

All three were very high quality shows, excellent to get on DVD. I got the feeling since all three had no recognizable stars they died on the vine. It doesn't matter how good a show is written and acted if no one ever checks it out to begin with.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

Another vote for Pushing Daisies. I hate the fact that the writers' strike was the thing that broke the show's momentum, and that they handled the last episode the way they did. I would have rather they left everything hanging than rushed to bring things to somewhat of a logical conclusion. Even the narrator's dialogue in that last minute sounded like he was trying to beat a timeclock ticking down.
