I never understand this criticism. I can see like 10 brand names from where I am sitting.
It's not that they have the product, it's that they seem to make it part of their storyline. Ie. this episode and a past episode where Phil was trying to get an iPad.

But that's real life. What other tablets have people waiting in line and sell out day one? I don't even use a single Apple product, and I see nothing wrong with the way they use them in the show. As others have said, it's much better than going to a bar and ordering "Beer."

I've set an alarm to wake up at 2 AM to order an iPhone. It's just not that weird of a situation.

The iPad one felt real. There was a big iPad excitement around that time and it was realistic that Phil would be into that. I feel the same way every time a prominent logo is show in the background or even casually mentioned in conversation. It's realistic and not that big of a deal.

But, this one felt forced. It seemed that they wanted to take a second to show you all the features of the Macbook. I'm sure Apple paid a whole lot of money and insisted they do that. This was a 30 minute commercial.

Not to mention them casually dropping Halo references too. Getting money from both Apple and Microsoft in the same episode. Way to go ABC.

I give the writers credit for making it work so well.

I groaned at first, but actually enjoyed the episode more than I thought I would. Pretty good idea, even if it was one big paid ad for Apple/Microsoft/etc...

I thought this episode was super-creative and absolutely hilarious. IMO, the best this season.

I completely disagree with the comments about it feeling like a commercial. My entire household switched to Macs, iPads and iPhones this year after finally having it with our Windows 8/Surface/Windows Phone setups. This episode showed almost exactly how we use our products. I thought it was completely realistic and fun.

Yeah, I was in the same boat...the first few minutes I thought it was horrible, then it started to grow on me and I wound up really enjoying it.

Wait, Phil stood in line for Halo at launch, and he was able to play multiplayer online? Took me right out of the episode...

Otherwise, the storyline was good, and they used the concept well, though I'm not eager to see the gimmick used again.
