The AV Club's Best Animated Series (A–Z edition)

A list of the best show that starts with each letter in the English alphabet.

http://www.avclub.com/article/best-a...atever--214799

Adventure Time

Beavis and Butt-head

The Critic

Daria

Eek! The Cat

The Flinstones

Gravity Falls

Home Movies

Invader Zim

Johnny Bravo

King of the Hill

Liquid Television

Muppet Babies

Neon Genesis Evangelion

The Oblongs

Pinky and the Brain

Queer Duck

The Ren and Stimpy Show

The Simpsons

The Tick

Ugly Americans

The Venture Brothers

The Wacky Races

X-Men: The Animated Series

The Yogi Bear Show

The Zeta Project

The biggest omission, in my opinion, is Batman: The Animated Series which should have gotten a runner-up at the very least. Plus, by including Liquid Television you basically already have Beavis in there.

Yeah, Batman > Beavis and Butt-head, but Beavis and Butt-head was the more pop-culture influential.

yeah, B:TAS should've been over Beavis and Butthead, even as much as I like B&B.

Rocky & Bullwinkle >>> Ren & Stimpy. And I love Ren & Stimpy.

Too much modern stuff.

I like Mike Judge and King of the Hill is fantastic, but I've never really gotten the appeal of Beavis and Butt-Head to be honest. I've tried watching it and just never have found it funny. Maybe because I didn't grow up with it but it usually just comes off stupid to me. I like the movie but mostly just because it has the voice of Robert Stack who I've always thought is awesome. Batman: The Animated Series is easily one of the best shows of all time (not just for animated shows either).

Cowboy Bebop for C, Rick and Morty over Ren and Stimpy

Animaniacs should have been in for A, but I'm guessing since they gave Pinky and the Brain they didn't want to overdo it?

Invader Zim is very overrated.

And Robotech beats R&S and R&B hands down.

And I am guessing that neither Looney Tunes nor Merry Melodies count as a TV series, obviously.

I still think Tiny Toons was the forefather for Animaniacs. Without TT succeeding, we would not have had Animaniacs.

I also don't understand how not a single one of the Disney cartoons from the 80s/90s made it onto here.

I'm sorry, but Duck Tales is better than Daria.

Wait... Daria took the D position?

Invalid list is invalid.

How could I forget DuckTales. Easily one of my favorite animated shows ever and definitely better than Daria I agree. The list overall is kind of a weird one. Some of the picks are good but some just feel random and like they were picked for being current or relatively new.

As long as Pinky & the Brain and The Tick made it, I am happy. I believe Disney has still never released every Tick episode on DVD.

I thought it was a Fox/Saban show.

The home video rights were controlled by Disney for some reason, they definitely released the DVDs under their Buena Vista imprint. Saban liked flipping their properties.

Sony owns the live-action Tick show.

Where is the DCAU? It'd be nice if the second season of The Zeta Project ever came out on DVD. I can't believe the absence of BTAS.

I've been meaning to revisit NGE for years. I wasn't that impressed when I was heavily into anime and got into it in my teen years, finding it vastly overrated, but now that I've matured, I should give it another chance. Why has it not been licensed again in the US? You would think that it is a popular enough property that even with the current state of the market, someone would jump for it. Is there some sort of legal issue with it?
