Winter Dragon (Wheel of Time pilot on FXX) - 2/9/15
 

Anyone see this or even know about this? Apparently aired in the dead of night (1:30 am EST) on FXX with no forewarning. Here it is (be warned, it's awfully dull):

There's a nice story about it on Grantland. Long-story-short: production company owns the rights to Robert Jordan's works, but hasn't done squat. There's a clause in the contract that the rights return to Jordan's estate if nothing was produced within 7 years. The 7 years were up this week. So they did a rush job that Ed Wood would be proud of (the whole thing shot in under a day; start-to-finish production time of 2 weeks) and dumped it when they hoped no one noticed.

I never got into the Wheel of Time series ... mainly because I heard horror stories about how it started well but dragged terribly. But it sounds like the sort of thing that could be massively improved with a well-made series (especially since the book series was ultimately finished by another author). Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like this production company is up to making the series.

Brilliant play really, if that allowed them to retain the rights and align to the contract clause. It essentially aired as if it were an infomercial. :lol:

No different than putting out crappy movies, needless reboots, etc. Just that those properties catch flak and people clamoring for the rights to revert. :p
