Live-Action Legend of Zelda series in the works at Netflix

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.co...ks-at-netflix/

Netflix’s increasingly bold programming moves could be taking the video streaming service to Hyrule.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is in the “very early stages of development” on a live-action series based on the blockbuster video-game franchise The Legend of Zelda.

The newspaper’s unnamed source contends Netflix is characterizing the fantasy-adventure as “Game of Thrones for a family audience.” No writer is attached, and The Journal cautions the project could die just as quickly as it started.

Netflix is reportedly working with Nintendo, which has resisted licensing its properties since the 1993 live-action flop Super Mario Bros. However, as we learned in December, the Japanese game developer appears to be opening up to overtures from Hollywood, and has had discussions with producer Avi Arad about an animated Super Mario Bros. movie.
Uhh Yes Please

on one hand, if they do this up like a GoT show, it could be good. on the other hand, Nintendo and their past shows/movies.

It would be funny if in every episode, someone explains to Link, yet again, how a bomb, sword and slingshot works.

I know it's just marketing-speak, but "GoT for a family audience" actually doesn't seem like that great of a thing to me.

I don't like this idea at all. Link and Zelda are cartoon characters, and should not be presented like LOTR or Game of Thrones, IMHO.

The same thing goes for Mario, so I'm glad that the film they're considering for that is animated.

Considering we'd probably get some CGI Link cartoon, I'm fine with at least trying it live action.

I love the Zelda games, but I can't imagine any scenario where a live-action Zelda would be anything other than incredibly campy. This needs to be CG animated, not live-action.

I don't know how well Zelda would translate to live action. I agree with others about just doing an animated show if anything.

It's funny that when a certain character death happened in How To Train Your Dragon 2, I actually blurted out "so this is like Game of Thrones but for kids?" Awesome movie, by the way.

But, serious answer, on a TV budget, a Legend of Zelda series would likely be akin to Legend of the Seeker. It would be a fun fantasy series, provided you don't expect anything with the scale of the LotR movies.

Can't wait to see one of the episodes where he goes running around town chasing chickens and throwing them back in the pen. That should be sweet.

Only if Bruce Spence features into the episode somehow.

Nintendo isn't stupid. They know Super Mario Bros. (1993) reputation, and have been hesitant to license any of their properties out for live-action adaptation as a result

A Metroid movie had been in development hell for years because nothing could do the franchise any justice. I'm hopeful.

I can't wait to see a live action Tingle.

I remember many many many years ago, there was a fake page on IMDB someone created for a Zelda movie. They had Richard Simmons listed as playing Tingle.

Maybe that will finally become reality.

And then he runs into a shop and smashes every pot.

Holee shit! I've been hoping for a well-made Zelda movie for 20 years. This is the next best thing, I guess.

This is excellent. I've always enjoyed the Zelda world and storytelling more than the games themselves (I never was much of a gamer).
