The music takes me back and I'm still loving this show even with its imperfections.

I didn't catch that. The original version has been around since I was a kid. I can't remember the brand name but it always had a pic of a rooster on it.

Yeah, traditionally it's referred to as Rooster sauce because of that (knew that name long before Sriracha). Some were speculating that Huy Fong Foods didn't want their product associated with IBS.

Wait, rooster suace and sriracha are the same thing?

I know this is based on his book and real life, but I had a real problem with the dad and mom justifying stealing the manual and not paying the franchise fee.

Yeah, same sauce.

I don't know if there's any truth to that situation but it sounds like they cribbed it from Coming To America.

Saintly character on sitcoms get old fast, so I was kind of glad about that, wrong as it may be.

Well it definitely enforces the stereotype that the Chinese copy everything (I realize that's probably not what they were going for). I was fine with it being a running joke how similar his restaurant is, but to show him stealing the manual because he didn't have enough money up front, ending in them defacing a billboard in revenge for being called thieves... Ah, I know it's just a comedy, just felt wrong.

Enjoyed tonight's episode and it was good to see the actor who played Burt on Trophy Wife, guest starring on this show. He was one of my favorites on Trophy Wife.

Mom and the two youngest boys are the best things on this show. Dad and the fat kid have got to go.

I agree but the fat kid is who the show is about and the real one narrates it.

I saw him on Ridiculousness recently and he is a full size version of that young kid.
Could be mini me and grown version.

Nope, the dad (and actor) rock. Actually reminds me of an uncle, personality-wise.

Re: Fresh off the Boat (ABC) - Series Thread - premieres 2/4/15

I'm good with the dad and son, though the mom is definitely a scene stealer. I can do without the two youngest kids, the whole "Look at me cute my way through things" has gotten old already.

I didn't care for last nights episode overall, but it wasn't terrible. And yeah, Eddie was well cast with respect to grown up Eddie.

Same, his brothers I don't really care for but I like the rest of the cast. Constance Wu, the mom, is probably the one getting more roles out of this in the future out of everyone though.

Re: Fresh off the Boat (ABC) - Series Thread - premieres 2/4/15

Oh shit! I just saw the ep. where Eddie was told to show the new Asian kid around. The principle thought they would get along because they were both Chinese. The same thing happened to me last year. Me and some other guy were the only Asians at a high performance driving school and the instructor thought we would get along so he paired us up. We got along just fine but now I'm wondering what was going through the instructor's mind.

But hey, Takuma Sato was the first Japanese driver to win an Indy Car race. Long Beach Grand Prix, no less, pretty famous race.

Yeah, been there. Back in '82 I took home one of the F1 tires they left behind and turned it into a coffee table.

The episode from last week with the gay guy visiting was pretty funny too. I actually liked the two brothers for the first time in the series with the chicken pox stalking stuff.
