"Midnight City" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, V) (HDTV)

SUIT UP - Arsenal (Colton Haynes) and Diggle (David Ramsey) confront Laurel (Katie Cassidy) about trying to step into her sister's shoes and warn her to stop before she gets herself killed. However, when Brick (guest star Vinnie Jones) kidnaps the city's Aldermen and threatens to kill them all unless the police evacuate The Glades, it's all suits on deck. Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) steps in to help Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and the police force fight Brick, showing Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) a new side of her boss. Malcom (John Barrowman) tells Thea (Willa Holland) that Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable) is after him and his family and they must leave town immediately. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski (#311). Original airdate 1/28/2015.

Thought it was very good episode with few poor points. I think this is the most I ever liked Laurel or Roy. I liked that laurel wasn't a super badass fighter but still went out to fight. However, the fact she went in instead of Diggle seemed dumb to me. If anything all three should have went in without monitor backup.

I like Felicity but her change of heart happen to quickly. I was surprised she helped Laurel lie to her father about Sara's death. I was also surprised nether Diggle or Roy said anything about that.

Looks like I was right about Oliver not using a Lazarus pit. I am however surprised over how fast they are moving his healing along. Maybe they will have him return but not fight for awhile.

I noticed Katana and that one guy's kid is missing. I'm guessing he died or the league is holding him hostage.

You know what I want? A 1/16th-trained Black Canary. Start with one that completely kicks ass, kill her, then make me watch her shitty sister get beat up by everyone she confronts for a season or two. Laurel is the worst. When she actually managed to punch Vinnie Jones in the back I was like "Give her a taser! This would be over!"

I like how Felicity has really stepped it up as a leader this season. She's a far cry from the mousy little hacker and I welcome it.

They need to tell Lance that Sara is dead. It was a little sad and heartbreaking in this episode, but it will quickly become slapsticky and stupid ("Oh no, you just missed her!").

I think Lance finds out that Laurel is playing Black Canary and stops talking to her or something.

Roy did seem more mature this episode. Call me crazy but I am fairly sure the show got a new hair stylist.

Diggle is well on his way to playing the Hulk. He's bigger than Roy and Oliver put together.

Black Canary pt.2 I thought it would be a mess but having her fail when she thinks she can, is real.
I'd like to see this new team do it on their own for a while and have Oliver stay where he is and deal with Ra's al Ghul a little. Only to have Ra's al Ghul go to Starling City (perhaps to kill Thea) as Oliver follow and then have the team find he is alive.

Diggle should become the green lantern.

Felicity is almost the whole show now. Amazing that she has grown from 1 off guest to bit player to regular to essentially co-lead. Not that I really have an issue with it.

This is what I'm hoping too. To many shows do storylines like this and wrap them up too quickly. I find it much more interesting to see the fallout for a while. Lets see the team actually try and go on without Oliver and make that last for than 1 or 2 episodes.

It seems even Thea wants Felicity.

And I don't blame her.

I like that Laurel is a struggling Black Canary, but I thought it was insane that she went out on the field with Roy against a supervillian while Diggle--with all his training--sat back and used a computer. Laurel deserves getting beat up. If this were reality, she'd be dead by now. I kept wishing that every time one of them pointed out to Laurel that she was ill-equipped, she's say, "Then teach me!"

I also keep thinking that if Oliver was really missing and a supervillian is terrorizing the city, surely Felicity would be giving Barry a phone call and asking for a half hour of his time to steal all the bad guy's weapons or something...

Even his eyebrows looked far more natural than the overly sculpted look he's had since day one.

Laurel is fighting about as good as she should be after five minutes of training. Not sure how they are going to make her better without it taking far too long.

did the show forget all about Ted Grant?

They could easily level the playing field by giving Laurel superpowers ala Black Canary's trademark sonic scream.

I hate to admit it but seeing Laurel getting thrown around and beat up by every two-bit villain is kind of fun.

Only Batman gets to use the Lazarus pit.

Except when it's otherwise occupied.

Isn't that the inverse of the comic book version? I seem to recall that Dinah would always rely on her sonic scream and had Ted Grant train her when she realized her metahuman power wasn't enough.

That was one storyline, yes.

My understanding is the actor left for a bigger part. Which sucks.

"We got jumped by a guy in a red hood and some drag queen!"

Nice to see that Laurel is as good a vigilante as she is a lawyer, a girlfriend, a sister, and a daughter. :D

Seriously, though - Laurel's arrogance has always been her defining trait, whether or not the shorwunners intended it to be. It was nice to see it finally bite her in the ass, and hopefully she'll grow from the experience.

I'm confused...I thought Laurel was doing "ok" as BK...better than she should have. Now she is suddenly an amateur who seems to have been fighting for only a week?
